I am not quite sure what I've gotten into as of late but I"m hoping someone has some insight for me. I've been gluten-free for a year now (with the exception of 6 weeks this summer before my EGD). I have been fine, DH all clear, brain fog lifted, no headaches etc....until 2 days ago. My elbows are a mess, I'm tired and grumpy and I'm walking around on pins and needles waiting for a migraine to pound me. Generally with just an accidental "slip" I don't feel this way, just enough to know I've done something wrong. The only thing I can come up with is Halls. My allergies have been off the chart (thanks to lovely Ohio weather :) ) and I've been sucking on halls to help with the congestion. I've checked, double checked, had my husband check everything I've been eating and we can't come up with anything. The next part of my question is could I have gotten glutened weeks ago and just feeling it this bad now? I'm lost on this one and completly frustrated...I feel this crappy and I didn't even get to eat anything good in the process.

They claim Halls is gluten free, but there are several people on here that won't touch them.

Delete the halls and is it possible you are developing an allergy to something else? A food, or a typical allergen?

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
