He came home after eating out at his mom's. I fixed a nice fruit salad while he was gone. I see him picking out a bowl to eat some fruit salad with me and my daughter. I asked him did he pick out fruit yet, he said no and I said i just wanted to make sure you didnt have gluten on your hands from your mom's foods before eating over here. So he washed his hands. About 1/2 hour later I realized I definitely was glutened and then dh confessed that he was picking out fruit in there and had just finished eating his mom's homemade bread before he came here

@#$!! I wish he just would have been honest with me in the first place, yeah I would have been a bit frustrated but I wouldnt be having "D" and brain fog! I swear he is like a kid who gets his hand stuck in the cookie jar!

I guess the poor guy felt like being stuck 'between a rock and a hard place' when you asked him if he had touched the fruit with gluten on his hands. You'd get upset if he admitted he had contaminated the fruit salad, and he probably thought there was a chance that you wouldn't get glutened.

Others just don't understand how little it takes to make us sick. I hope he understands now how serious cross-contamination is. Make sure he realizes how sick you are by not hiding your distress. No words need to be spoken, really, other than letting him know that 'this is what happens when you touch my food with gluten on your hands'.

Hopefully he will remember and not do it again. Or if he forgets, to at least be honest about his slip up.

I hope you feel better soon. And don't let him stay in the dog house too long, he didn't do it on purpose and probably feels badly enough.

Thanks Ursula :)

He isnt in the dog house it would take alot for me to get that mad at him. I hate arguing anyways. I grew up in a house where it was a commonplace and I refuse to argue with him because of it, to this day (been together for 10 years) I have never raised my voice to him because I feel like its pointless. All it does is make everyone upset and you might say things you dont mean. Journaling it usually calms me down.

I just told him that I felt I was glutened but I couldnt figure out how. He told me he didnt wash his hands and did eat the fruit and I said I wish you would of told me before I ate it. He didnt see the effects because he went to work afterwards. He knows though since I had symptoms for years before my diagnosis. He grew up in a household where secrets and white lies were no big deal and doesnt realize how much it bothers me. I always tell him the truth.

thanks for the response :)

I'm sure it's chemically perfect. Most of them taste lousy!

Hi @JulieRe.  I just found your post.  It seems that I am also experiencing thrush, and my doctor believes that I have fungal overgrowth in my gut, which is most likely candida.  I'm seeing my GI doctor next week, so I'm hoping she can diagnose and confirm this and then give me an antifungal treatment.  In the meantime, I have been working with a functional medicine doctor, doing a candida cleanse and taking vitamins. It's already helping to make me feel better (with some ups and downs, of course), so I do think the yeast is definitely a problem for me on top of my celiac disease and I'm hoping my GI doctor can look into this a bit further.  So, how about you?  Did the candida come back, or is it still gone following your fluconazole treatment?  Also, was it awful to take fluconazole?  I understand that taking an antifungal can cause a reaction that sometimes makes people feel sick while they're taking it.  I hope you're doing better still !

I'm so sorry you're going through this—the "gluten challenge" is notoriously brutal, and it's awful to deliberately make yourself sick when you've already found the answer. For the joint pain, many people find that over-the-counter anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen can help take the edge off, and using heating pads or warm baths can provide some direct relief for the aches. For the digestive misery, stick to simple, easy-to-digest foods (like plain rice, bananas, and bone broth) and drink plenty of water and electrolytes to stay hydrated. It feels like the longest month ever, but you are doing the right thing to get a clear diagnosis, which can be crucial for your long-term health and getting the proper care. Hang in there; you can get through this! This article, and the comments below it, may be helpful:

Daura Damm (a sponsor here) uses AN-PEP enzymes and filtering in their brewing process to reduce/remove gluten, and it actually tests below 10ppm (I've see a document where they claim 5ppm).

This topic has come up before on this forum and has been researched. No GMO wheat, barley and rye are commercially available in the USA. Any modifications are from hybridization, not laboratory genetic modification. Better toleration of wheat, barley and rye products in other countries is thought to be due to use of heirloom varieties of these cereal grains as opposed to the hybrids used in the USA which contain much larger amounts of gluten.
