hi there im sorry if this gets long but need to help on some things since i was 19 (im now 22) ive been severly depressed to the point i stopped going out with any of my friends and became reclused it all started with these tiny flat white spots all over my body that appeared mor when i was cold or stressed then came hairloss on one side of my head around my temple area the spots were the worse it was a total confidence killer and thats when i became very obsessive on my appearance for the next few years id go through all soprts of moods sad angry depressed give up..... and tried many dermatologist and specialists then a few months back i tried a nutritionist not thinking it would be diet involved i used to eat the worst foods on regular basis ie kebabs and all the junkiest foods u can imagine every night after being to the pub and gettin legless and smoking 40 cigarettes on top of that so i probably gave my body no chance at all, so anyways the nutritionist suggested i try cut out all wheat gluten and dairy from my diet i tried it and at first there was no big change so after a week or two i reverted back to comfort eating and when i did i felt this unbelievable ill feeling like i was drained sore stomach and my spots fully out itchy eyebrows which are slightly flakey and the feeling i had been lightly punched in the gut, then i realised without knowing it i had been feeling this way all along but never felt what it was like to feel good before i started the intolerance free diet so i jumped back on it and after a couple of days with no wheat/gluten/dairy my spotsd are almost invisible i feel great infact i cant sleep i have so much energy and im a lot warmer now and less cold than ever, but ive tried reintroducing some of the intolerent foods to see exactly what im intolerent to but it seems it all of them which is a bummer so no wheat or gluten or dairy :S will that not lead to a really hard and maybe slighly boring life veg and fruit for life ? im 22 now and was hoping to one day at least get back out to pubs with my friends but it seems even beer/lager contains gluten i have good willpower ive not smoked now in 8 months and have no cravings for it either i eat all the right things i have to the one thing i ask is once aweek i can socialise with my friends in the only place they get together is the pub is there anyway i can get this with meds or anything thanks K :)

nope, there aren't any meds that will allow you to safely be able to consume gluten.

but, there are a handful of beers out there that are gluten free. the chances that the pub you go to will have one of them is low, but if they can pick a place and stick with it, you may be able to talk to the owner to work something out, and possibly get them to order some.

if not, remember that you don't have to drink or eat to socialize. I've gone to a number of places where there's nothing for me to have, but I'm there for the company. water taste the same everywhere. :-) real friends, after getting used to it, won't say a word.

thanks for the reply yeah im a big water fan and drink away at it all the time but it just aint the same my friends wouldnt get at me its just when theyve had a good few drinks and are having a laugh u all know the guy who hasnt cant relate or get into it he same frame of mind as the rest its just the whole feeling u get when were all on the same level :( apart from that the rest i can go with in terms of change of lifestyle but he one thing i hoped for was that after i get sorted i could get back out with my friends and enjoy a normal weekend drinking again are commercial lagers really bad in terms of gluten and wheat and would i maybe not be bothered that much by them ? i know when i eat food types with these ingrediants after 5 mins i feel the sickness and the spots come out but whenm i drink the spots dissappear as it has some sort of vessel dilater and i dont feel sick at all when im drinking it whether i feel it the next morning is another story as its hard to tell if its intolerance or just a hangover? thanks for any replys :)

There's other drinks out there than beer, most of them are gluten free.

As far as variety, I think I've got plenty of variety in my diet and yet it is very restrictive. I suppose in some ways it is better because there aren't so many tempting foods out there to get fat on. It puts food back into the category of nourishment rather than entertainment. :D

      Healthy Omega Three fats.  Olive oil or flaxseed oil, oily fish, fatty cuts of meat.   Our bodies run much better on burning fats as fuel.  Diets based on carbohydrates require an increased amount of thiamine to process the carbs into fuel for the body.  Unfortunately, thiamine mononitrate is used to enrich rice.  Thiamine mononitrate is relatively unusable in the body.  So a high carb diet can further decrease thiamine stores in the body.  Insufficient thiamine in the body causes the body to burn body fat and muscle for fuel, so weight loss and muscle wasting occurs.  Those extra carbohydrates can lead to Candida (often confused with mold toxicity) and SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth).   Losing weight quickly is a symptom of thiamine insufficiency.  Muscle wasting is a symptom of thiamine insufficiency.  I lost sixty pounds in a month.   Having difficulty putting weight on and keeping it on is a symptom of thiamine insufficiency.   The AIP diet works because it eliminates all grains and grasses, rice, quinoa, all the carbs.  Without the carbs, the Candida and SIBO get starved and die off.  Easy way to change your microbiome is to change what you feed it.  With the rowdy neighbors gone, the intestine can heal and absorb more nutrients.   Supplementing with essential vitamins and minerals is beneficial.  Talk to your doctor and nutritionist.  Benfotiamine is a form of thiamine that promotes intestinal healing.  The eight B vitamins are water soluble, so if you don't need them, they can be gotten rid of easily.   Night shades are excluded on the AIP diet.  Potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant are not allowed on the AIP diet.  They contain alkaloids that promote "a leaky gut".  Benfotiamine can help here. Sweet potatoes are avoided because they contain thiaminases, chemicals that break thiamine so that the body cannot use it.   The AIP diet has helped me.

      A gluten ingestion can last for many months.  Many years ago there was a celiac conference in Fl.  Everyone there got contaminated with some having difficulty 6 months to recover.  It will hit your Lympatic system and spread  through the body and effect your nevous system as well. Most times when I get glutened it is from a prescription med that wasn't checked close enough.  the Pharmacuticals change vendors all the time.

      Thank you so much for the responses. Every piece of information helps.  I only knowingly ate gluten once, that was four days ago. I had the reaction about 3-4 hours after consuming it. I’m concerned that after 4 days the symptoms aren’t abating and almost seem worse today than yesterday.  I haven’t had either breath test. I did ask about additional testing but the PA recommended me to a celiac specialist. Unfortunately the first available is mid-December.  As far as diet, I am a pescatarian (have been for 25+ years) and I stopped eating dairy mid-last week as my stomach discomfort continued. Right now, I’m having trouble eating anything. Have mostly been focused on bananas, grapes, nut butters, DF yogurt, eggs, veggie broth.   I ordered some gluten-free meal replacements to help.  But I’ll get all the items (thank goodness for Instacart) and try the diet you recommended to get me past this period of feeling completely awful.  Yes, my doctor diagnosed celiac. I was concerned it wasn’t right based on the negative blood test and my continued symptoms.  Even if you are ‘glutened’ it shouldn’t last forever, right? Is four days too long?
