Osteopenia And Gerd

I would greatly appreciate some advice.

I have a diagnosis, verified, of POTS and acid reflux, gastroparesis (food doesn't move through my stomach) and CFS. My hair is thinning and I have chronic constipation. I have severe osteopenia. I have severe cognitive disorders and anxiety and depression, no job, and no insurance. Does this sound like I should try the elimination diet? I can't afford the testing, and it doesn't sound so conclusive. My gastroenterologist has never suggested that I am gluten intolerant.

My sister is gluten intolerant from experimentation.

I am concerned about eating vegetables and meats only because of the osteopenia. I am intolerant of the bone strengthening meds because of my stomach and severe muscle pain. Any suggestions? Many thanks! I GREATLY appreciate any advice. Elegiamore

Wow, sounds like things are really tough right now. I'm so sorry that you're having such a hard time. You have nothing to lose by trying the diet. You don't need to cut out milk (unless you discover other issues) so you can still get calcium.

A lot of the symptoms sound like symptoms others on this forum have experienced, so, give it a shot.

Start with the obvious: breads, pastas, cereals, and go from there.

I hope the diet brings you some relief.

I cut out the rice because it was affecting my stomach at the time ... not necessarily dermatitis herpetiformis. It was Tilda Basmati Rice, sometimes wholegrain rice. I was willing to do whatever it took to heal. Too much fiber also disagrees with me as I have UC.

But you didn't answer my question. When you consume gluten, is there an identifiable reaction within a short period of time, say a few hours?

You can still have celiac disease with negative blood test results, although it's not very common:  Clinical and genetic profile of patients with seronegative coeliac disease: the natural history and response to gluten-free diet: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5606118/  Seronegative Celiac Disease - A Challenging Case: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9441776/  Enteropathies with villous atrophy but negative coeliac serology in adults: current issues: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34764141/

I am only wondering why you would need to cut out rice? I've never heard of rice being any issue in those with DH.

My mother has celiac disease and was diagnosed with Afib around 8 months ago. She's 81 and around 2 months ago had ablation therapy done, which is a very common procedure to treat this, and has been out of Afib 95% of the time since then. Apparently the full effects of this treatment don't kick in for 90 days, so the doctors expect her recovery to possibly reach 100%. Be sure to discuss this with your doctor.
