I'll be visiting Eagle Co in December 2007 for 6weeks or so and need some information about where to get gluten-free foods. Are they readily avail in supermarkets there?

Where / how to dine out in the area?

USA labelling on goods.

I'll also be skiing a Vail and Beaver Ck, so any info on any gluten-free foods avail there would be great too.

Be very grateful for any information you can extend to me.

Thanks :D

I am in colorado, but i have not had to go to vail or eagle since being gluten free, so i cant really help. But If there is a safeway or king soopers there, they will have some gluten free foods in their supermarkets. I would do an search for health food stores in eagle and see what it comes up with. I am sure they have lots of places that will be accomadating. Are you going to go to like denver or just stay at the ski resorts for the 6 weeks.

I live in Colorado, but I spend most of my time in the Denver/Boulder/Fort Collins area. I've only ever driven through Eagle, and that was well before I ever needed to worry about finding gluten free food. I do know that they probably have a Safeway and/or King Soopers. They usually have a a health food section where you can find some gluten free items. They may have a Whole Foods, which has a LOT of gluten-free options. They have a gluten-free freezer for baked goods and put "GLUTEN FREE!" labels on the shelfs near some of their gluten-free items. I say "some" because not all of their gluten-free items have been labeled this way.

If you make it out to Denver at all, there are several Whole Foods, as well as a couple Wild Oats and I think a Vitamin Cottage. Wild Oats is another health food store, but a bit smaller. They've actually been bought out by Whole Foods so it's hard to say whether they will still be around in December. I actually like Vitamin Cottage best. They're smaller than Whole Foods, but their prices are lower and they stock a lot more gluten-free food than any other store I've seen. Denver also has Deby's Gluten Free Bakery, which I've never tried but hear is absolutely amazing. There's another similar bakery in Erie, which is west of Denver. Both of these places have websites, I can search and post them a little later. Eagle may have a Whole Foods or Vitamin Cottage, I suggest searching for either on Google and looking up their Colorado locations.

As for restaurants, again I'm not really familiar with Eagle so I don't even know what they have! I can say that most "nice" restaurants are very accomodating and you can usually find something safe to eat. Do some research into the restaurants in that area and perhaps send an email or call ahead to find out. If you go to Switchboard.com and type in the location and search for "restaurants" that will give you a pretty complete listing. Some of these places may have websites. Most of the restaurants I know are in Boulder and Fort Collins.

Hi there @MCAyr I have a small umbilical hernia which came about during my second pregnancy.   I can just about see it, and feel it, when I stand or sit, but it is far less noticeable when I lie down.  I always know when I am putting on weight because I can get pain and burning near the site, funnily enough not on the hernia itself but either side!  I would imagine bloating could cause the same effect as weight gain. In my case I don't think it is my bowel protruding but a bit of fat  - sorry,  I realise this isn't painting a very pretty picture.  But in truth it is scarcely noticeable.  It has never really got bigger in size. I was rather hoping that it could be operated on but here in the UK they don't seem to operate on every hernia anymore.  My GP isn't remotely worried about it. In a way, I should be thankful - it is like an early warning system that I need to go on a diet! Cristiana

The hernia description would likely be unrelated to celiac disease, but you'd need to get it checked out by your doctor to be sure it's a hernia.
