Juice Plus - Vitamin Supplement

My aunts both take Juice Plus food supplement and they swear by it. I would like to start taking it, and see that on their website they say it is gluten free, but I am concerned because it lists barley and oats and has (gluten free) after each. I found this old post from this website:

"I know of a great whole food supplement that is better than any vitamin I've ever taken and it is gluten-free. It's called Juice Plus - it's a capsule that has the concentrated powder of 17 fruits and vegetables. Because it includes only the outer portion of the oat and barley grain it is gluten-free.

This confuses me. I didn't know that we could have the outer portion of oat or barley grains. could someone please explain this to me?

Courtney

My Lyme doc recommended it to me, so I started taking it without reading the ingredients. I reacted, so read them and saw the barley and oats. I stopped taking them, then after a couple weeks started them again, and the symptoms returned.

No, they are not gluten-free.

You can take the Orchard blend ones though, just not the veggie. I just bought a different brand at Wild Oats today that has no gluten in it.

REally? It is scary that they have gluten free all over their webpage and several others that I found. I was a worried when I read about the barley and oat proteins. I will stear clear of the veggie ones then. I am dissapointed though I must say. What kind did you get instead? Did you get a veggie supplement? Or some other kind of supplement?

I saw that other websited said it was gluten-free, but on their website, I couldn't find it. This is where I was looking, is this the site you were on? Open Original Shared Link

Some people also say that wheat grass or barley grass is gluten-free. The thing is, how can they be 100% sure that they got all the gluten out? I've had supplements with barley grass make me sick, too. The veggie juice plus definately made me feel bad. I wasn't glutened for days, "just" some stomach cramping ... I guess that's because they tried to get the gluten out? I tried it on two different occasions.

I am taking the fruit one and some other antioxidants by Nature's Plus (it also has fruit, but I can't remember the name of it) from the health foods store. I couldn't find a veggie supplement, only one with broccoli sprout extract, which my Lyme doc also recommended.

I really wanted to start taking these too. They sound great and I have non-gluten-free friends who really like them.

There was a discussion about this not too long ago. We react to cross contamination on cutting boards and can't just pick the croutons off a salad or take the bun off a burger. There is just no way they can be examining each and every particle to make sure there is no other part of the grain except the outer part is included. With the processing of grains, there is just no way that they can even come close to not getting some gluten in it. From what I've seen from people who have tried it, it's enough to cause a reaction.

But the Orchard Blend ones don't cause a reaction? I am assuming that they make them on totally separate lines.

I am so glad that I asked this question before trying the veggie ones.. you saved me some pain! Thank you for your help

You're welcome! I have no problem with the Orchard Blend one.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
