Food Intolerances/allergies And Anxiety

I have experienced a weird symptom that I wonder if any of you have had or know anything about.

It seems that when I have eaten a questionable food, I get this adrenaline surge feeling after eating and AND when I'm going to the bathroom (2). It's almost like an anxiety reaction, but purely physical. My heart doesn't race, but it feels like it is.

I've also been having anxiety and trembling guts that I think are food-intolerance/allergic reactions.

I've got an appt with a gastro, but not until April 5. This may be too long to wait! Do any of you think this is anything to be super concerned about, or would you wait for the appt? I may just see if I can get in with an internist sooner.

Thanks in advance for all input!!!

Yep, been there and done that. I was freaking out so bad about what I'd ate, I found myself not eating. The anxiety, for me, got so bad that I went to the doctor and was put on an anti-depressent which has really helped a lot. It's also helped any "IBS" issues I'd have, normally the minute I'm stressed out my stomach is off and running.

I don't know if you need to be super concerned, but I would recommend taking your diet down to very simple plain foods. Keep a food log so you can see if you're getting any trends in what you eat/bathroom/anxiety issues.

feel better!

Thanks for your input and understanding, Ev!! I have taken my diet down to just meats & veggies, but adding little things here and there seems to have proven my current intolerance to most other things. Sigh. Where are the days of eating pizza & stuff? lol It's better to not eat those things, I know, but I'm getting bored trying to figure out what I can eat!

I know what you mean about being afraid to eat and so not eating! That was me last week and I became weakened, which is not good either! Guess I'll be resolute in my current dietary needs and be diligent about documentation.

Take care!!

I read somewhere, don't remember where, that it takes the brain awhile to catch up to the body after a lengthy illness. The brains still reacting like it is allergic to something even though there is nothing causing a reaction.

Does that make any sense?

A friend of mine is in the bar trade most of his life and has never heard of lines being mixed for different type of beers and ciders. Better to stick with cans.

Thanks very much for confirming my suspicion @Scott Adams! That helps a lot because I'm really trying to track down and get rid of these sources of cross-contact and so I'm going to just rule out the draft ciders and hope that helps. Also @Rogol72 its nice to hear you haven't had a problem on that side of the pond - draft cider lines being used for cider only certainly sounds like the right way to do it, but I think that must not always be practiced over here!

I didn't ask a doctor about this actually. I did ask several doctors a long time ago and they told me gluten has nothing to do with hashimoto's. One of them told me to do a gluten challenge to test for celiac, but at the time I was in graduate school so couldn't afford to be even more ill than I was. If you have the symptoms, I really don't advise you to do a gluten challenge. It messed me up mentally and physically for months. At the same time, I benefitted from doing the challenge in the sense that it convinced me that all my symptoms were truly from gluten - even stuff like insomnia! So now I am terrified to eat gluten, whereas before I would have a little once in a while and not notice anything dramatic.

I am in a similar situation where I can't feasibly do a gluten challenge but have all the symptoms and I have 2 celiac genes. I'm curious if your doctor advised you to eat as if you had a diagnosis or if they were more dismissive about it.

Negative, although I had most of the symptoms of celiac disease. I now eat as if I had a diagnosis.
