Low Fiber Diets?

In doing my research I came accross a website that suggests eating a low fiber diet for celiacs. If I don't eat enough fiber, then I get the big C. :( I was just wondering if any one else had heard this also and what the significance of a low fiber diet does for a celiac.

That sounds crazy and pointless. Maybe they meant initially, until your gut heals? Or maybe they meant to say that Celiacs end up eating a lower fiber diet because of the lack of whole grains?

Maybe they mean at the intial diagnosis of celiac but it reads as if in addition to following the gluten-free diet one should follow a low fiber one too.....scary what is out there!

In our case, a fiber rich diet was and is really important to help with the constipation too. However, many folks equate a fiber rich diet with raw fruits and vegetables, which are hard to digest, especially with a "raw" intestine. What we had to do for our son, was really cook all the fruit and vegetables, which allowed us to still get a decent fiber content, but helped make digestion easier. So, I wonder and what they considered "low fiber". Good luck

Fiber can be rough on the intestines, even more so in people with celiac disease. I eat a low fiber diet. Fiber draws water into the colon, which causes me to have dehydration. But I don't suffer from constipation, so eating low fiber is fine for me. Obviously fiber is good for those who sufer from constipation.

Thank you for explaining! This makes sense.

I have been looking for new dishes. I was surprised to find dishes made of wheat straw. Are these safe for us? I'm very careful to avoid products that may contain gluten. I never thought I might have to check for wheat in dishes.

Welcome to the forum, @Hope07! The reference range would refer to what is considered normal in healthy people. So, 7 or less would mean there is no indication of "active" celiac disease. Apparently, you are doing very will in avoiding gluten. The "Tissue Transglutaminase IGA" is the centerpiece antibody test that clinicians run when checking for celiac disease. My only reservation would be that whenever the TTG-IGA test is run, a "total IGA" test should also be run to check for IGA deficiency. When IGA deficiency is present, other IGA tests, such as the TTG-IGA can be artificially low and result in false positives. In the absence of any symptoms indicating your celiac disease is...

Hola! Not sure if I’m asking this in the right place so apologies if not! I just had a full blood count as part of my first check up after being diagnosed with celiac disease 7 years ago!! With Covid lockdowns then living in Spain for 3 years and now back in the UK, I kept getting missed in the system but finally I’ve had a check up! Does anyone know what this means?  Tissu transglutaminase IgA lev:  0.30 U/ml Reference range:  Below 7 Thank you!
