She Gets It

Just wanted to share this. My 12 yr old was diagnosed in May. She had no symptoms but was small stature. She has gained 5lbs and grown 3inches. I purchased rice crackers the other day. She called me at work and told me they were baked at a company where other products were also baked with wheat. ALA cross contamination. She thought we should throw them away and we did. I'm so proud of her. I wasn't so careful I just assumed...rice cracker ...this is ok. I'm lucky she reads labels. :D

That's great! Aren't kids amazing in what they learn and deal with! Sometimes I think kids do a better job than adults with life's little issues!

Very good! Now. . .if only my 17 year old brother would get that.

Tonight at supper, my husband said he was going to binge on Italian bread prior to his next bunch of tests -- first round were equivocal, but it looks like celiac disease -- and my 11 y.o. pats him on the hand

"Dad--don't worry. Just stick with me and I'll show you the ropes"

Awww!

Haha!!!

Some kids are just adults trapped in a small person's body ;)

You've done well!

Congrats! Can you share the recipe? We just picked up a bread maker from an estate sale and are experimenting.

So, @StuartJ, are you @rjane's celiac spouse?
    • StuartJ
Update: great news, she made a gluten-free loaf yesterday, switching the Xanthan for cornstarch, and adding a little more milk than the recipe called for, also used a regular quick bake setting instead of the gluten free.  The result was a superb and delicious bread that I could eat, enjoy and 24 hours later still no side effects!  😊
