Layover In Memphis, Airport

Anyone know of any safe places to grab some grub in either the Memphis, TN or Evansville, IN airports? I've got a layover in Memphis this month, and traveling to/from Evansville.

I have not been through these airports, but most airports have only bottled drinks (soda, water, juice) and possibly fresh whole fruit that is gluten free. I always bring at least a meal and a half and snacks when I am traveling by air. Below are links to the airports you will be traveling through.

Also, please note that airport food locations generally do not have the full menu that is available at non-airport locations.

Corky's is a well known Memphis barbecue place and they have a branch in the airport. I've not had a problem with their barbecue(sans bun ;)) and a websearch for Corky's and gluten free turns up several good hits...especially that the sauce is gluten-free. I did note the pork is cooked over hickory chips and charcoal....recent posters have said gluten may be in some(?) charcoal. You could also eat what we call "pig salad" which is 'cue on a salad........very tasty!

Hi everyone...along the same lines...I will be going to Nashville...staying by the airport...any suggestions for restaurants aside from the Outback?? Thanks a bunch..>Gina

I did have a layover in Memphis, twice, but the listing that Corky's gave me for gluten-free food - none of those items seemed to be on the menu at the airport, so I stuck with my cheese, turkey and crackers (I always freeze lunchmeat and take it out the morning of my flight). And, I called the manager of Food Operations at the airport over three weeks ago asking if they can help. Still waiting on a return phone call.

Your grades apply to most airport food concessions. I always assume there is nothing behind the securtiy gates that I can eat.

So sorry,Steve! I have had zero problems with their "wet" pork ribs.

Mempho is pretty uneducated still for celiac.....I just read their labels at Corky's and it vets out for me.

      Hi there @MCAyr I have a small umbilical hernia which came about during my second pregnancy.   I can just about see it, and feel it, when I stand or sit, but it is far less noticeable when I lie down.  I always know when I am putting on weight because I can get pain and burning near the site, funnily enough not on the hernia itself but either side!  I would imagine bloating could cause the same effect as weight gain. In my case I don't think it is my bowel protruding but a bit of fat  - sorry,  I realise this isn't painting a very pretty picture.  But in truth it is scarcely noticeable.  It has never really got bigger in size. I was rather hoping that it could be operated on but here in the UK they don't seem to operate on every hernia anymore.  My GP isn't remotely worried about it. In a way, I should be thankful - it is like an early warning system that I need to go on a diet! Cristiana

      The hernia description would likely be unrelated to celiac disease, but you'd need to get it checked out by your doctor to be sure it's a hernia.
