Going To The Gastro Dr

what is the consensus on going back on gluten before visiting a gastroenterologist for diagnosis? this will be a first-time visit, so probably no biopsy at this point. i was tested negative two years ago with the blood test, which was taken while i was gluten-free. just curious...thanks!

In my opinion, I think it's great that you're going back to a doctor... I'm on my 4th and hopefully final on the celiac issue. (It's difficult to find one that really knows about celiac and gluten intolerance). When if your appointment? If you feel it's important that you have accurate testing, you'd have to be back on gluten for some time for accuracy.... that, unfortunately might make you ill and I'd be the last to recommend that. How knowledgable is your doctor about celiac? They might recommend you start eating gluten again, but then they'd be able to document the effects of your experience in doing so.... which can be proof in itself

I'd vote for staying with things as they are. You'll need to be on gluten to be tested, but you'll want to find out your doc's approach first.

thank you for your opinions! i'd say i'm about 50 percent gluten-free now (it's hard being a vegan with the intolerance). i'm not sure how knowledgeable this specialist is on the disease (i hope very, especially since i've had such bad luck with docs in the past). my appointment is in two weeks, so i'll continue with my current diet (and unfortunate consequences) until the next step. thanks again! billy
