My Daughter's Having A Biopsy!

She's only 2 and has tested negative on the blood test and biopsy, but today I took her back into the skin specialist because she finally broke out in what appears to be a DH rash and the skin specialist completely agrees. She thinks it looks like classic DH and she wants her to be biopsied right away. The spot is on her back and they need to do two biopsies one of the edge of the spot and then one of fresh skin beside it. They are going to put her under anesthesia and call in a sergeon since she is only 2 and getting a biopsy the old fashioned way would be torture on her. This way she will have a couple little stitches where the biopsies were, so instead of a big round scar she'll just have a couple of small lines.

I soooooooooooo do not want my daughter to have any scars, and especially in the middle of her back where the spot is, but we really need to find out what is going on with her. Man this really sucks!!

It is amazing how fast scars disappear on babies. I wouldn't worry too much about the scar. Keep the scar out of the sun for the first year to minimize any color changes to it. My daughter got a bad cut that ripped the corner of her lip when she was 1.5 yrs. They used dermaglue instead of stiches (results in bigger scar but less trama for the baby). She is now 6 and I can barely see the scar if I look up close for it.

Hope your little one feels better soon. I think the procedures are harder for us than the kids sometimes. I was a wreck but relieved for my childs biopsy. Now we are facing another small surgery. It just keeps coming!!

The nicest scar I have is the one I got as a wee one to correct a birth defect in my neck. It has always been very thin and faint, even though I know it was major surgery when I had it done. The skin of little kids is so pliant that it heals very nicely.

By the way, what is DH?

good luck! vital wheat gluten made me violently ill. I will touch the stuff ever again.

I wouldn't consider this lucky. I can NOT tolerate the symptoms. And I googled it and I was not even getting 10 grams of gluten per day and I was extremely ill. They'd have to put me in the hospital. I'm not kidding.   I will have my first appt with a GI dr on March 4th   I will not eat gluten again - at least not on purpose   they are going to have to come up with a test that doesn't require it.

What Thiamine Hydrochloride brand do you take? Is it like the other vitamins I have added? What brand Tryptophan and amount do you take. Thanks

I would not think store bought yogurt would contain gluten unless it possibly could be through an added flavoring or coloring ingredient. Otherwise, it should be naturally gluten free.  Keep in mind that some companies are capitalizing on people's fears and ignorance (nothing personal intended) by labeling foods "gluten free" that are just that way by the nature of what they are. They are hoping to create a marketing edge over their competitors by adding "gluten free" because they know it may catch attention of those new to the celiac/gluten sensitivity experience without having to cost them anything in the way of changing their manufacturing process or doing testing.

I believe the GFCO does use a common logo for certified gluten free products (those containing not more that 10ppm of gluten) but nothing universal yet from the FDA for standard gluten free products (those containing not more that 20ppm).
