I know we won't be getting the fresh donuts this year! How about carmel apples? Maple candy? Cider? What gluten-free treats do you think are safe at the apple orchard?

Also, can you make a gluten-free pie? Apple crisp? I haven't attempted making gluten-free stuff from scratch yet!

You can certainly make gluten-free pies, and my daughter made apple crips with buckwheat flakes instead of oats the other day, and says it was delicious.

For the apple crisp just substitute buckwheat flakes for the oats in your recipe.

I have found some fantastic cinnamon donuts from Celiac Specalites (they are local for me, but they do ship). I bring some in a baggie and let my friends go in and get the cider and their donuts then we're all happy!! I would think caramel apples would be fine, but read the labels.

A fun treat we do is take home apples and either bake with them, or make our own applesauce - nothing tastes better then that.

      Shingles is dormant and related to chicken pox when one has had in the past.Shingles comes out when stress is heightened.I had my 3rd Shingles in 2023.

      Oh my......will the danger never end? It has seemed like no matter what we do or have done the odds were/are against us. Next they'll tell us that just looking at wheat will be dangerous. Oh well....hang in there.

      Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute.
