Low Immunoglobulins

Hoping some one can help me with question on blood work. I was diagnosed in May via blood test and confirmed in June with Endoscopy.

Recent blood work came back with Low immunoglobulin A at level of 49 and Low Immunoglobulin M slightly out of range at 41.

Doctor's office said it would only be a problem if suffering frequent infections. In researching it seems A may be related to intestinal disease (celiac)? If so, it would seem this might be common with others.

Any help??

Thanks

IgA deficiency is a little more common in celiacs than it is in non-celiacs, but i don't know the figures. one of my children is IgA deficien----and registers at almost nothing. he does not have celiac disease, but he does carry one of the main genes for it.

it used to seem like he had a cold all winter long, so i figured he must have allergies. he tests negative for allergies, but once i learned he was IgA deficient, i realized he probably DID have a cold most of the winter.

people who are IgA deficient have a IgA level of less than 7

Thanks to you both for answering. I guess I'll just have to watch and see how it fluctuates over time.

It can take longer than 6 months for antibodies to drop to the normal range,  My DGP IgA took a few years as I got stricter and stricter about being gluten free  But having symptoms again could also mean you’re getting some gluten in your diet.

Hi, I just had my 6 month check after being diagnosed Celiac 6 months ago.  All of my panel numbers were normal except: Deamidated Gliadin Abs, IgA (It is 31 with high being over 30)  I have also been having symptoms again. Am I not actually being as careful as I think I am or does it take longer than 6 months for this particular test to come back down?  I can't get ahold of my doctor this week as she is out.     Thank you!

That is very strange, because it looks to me like two very different test results, but for the same test! It's definitely time to contact your doctor for clarity on this.

Scott, thank you SO MUCH for this!! She has been through so much in the last three years as we've tried to track down answers. This language will definitely help me help her to reframe.
