Thanksgiving Products You Can Use

By Rachel Kay

Turkey

Note: Most fresh and frozen turkey's are gluten free. Be VERY cautious with "self-basting" turkeys and do not use the included gravy packet that may come with a turkey.

Butterball

I haven't found any gluten-free stuffing mixes, but then, my own homemade gluten-free stuffing is so good that I haven't looked for any recently. Does anyone have specific brand names?

Gluten Free Pantry has one - Open Original Shared Link. I did a mock Thanksgiving dinner last week to try out some recipes as this will be my first gluten free Thanksgiving. The stuffing came out really well. My non gluten free husband even enjoyed it.

Yes, the holidays don't have to be daunting. I'm glad to pass that information on.

For those who are not bakers, Philly Cream Cheese has seasonal "Cheese Cake" in a Tub near the refrigerator section at your grocery store. It is ready to go and gluten free. It's great with some Cool Whip and Cinnamon sprinkled on top....less time in the kitchen and more with family. :)

Ive been doing a gluten-free thanksgiving for years..i never even mention that fact to my guests!! REally!! I use a fresh turkey--organic--and stuff it with a rice and dried fruit stuffing..i have also used cornbread. Mashed potatoes..sweet potatoes with strusel topping (gluten-free oatmeal)..Brussel sprouts with carmelized onions...chebe bread...butternut squash -(lots of different preparations--they are nearly all gluten-free) and I do an apple crisp and pumpkin mousse for dessert..often I add some gluten-free brownies. I thik that thanksgiving is one of the easiest gluten-free holidays! No one ever seems to complain and they keep returning each year..so i must be doing something right or my firends are just really really hungry!!!!

That list was wonderful and a good help to all. I might have to go check out that Cheese Cake you were talking about. It sounds very good :)

Does anyone have a really good stuffing recipe that uses saffron? I love the saffron flavor in stuffing, but I haven't found any great recipes yet.

I've cooked the Honeysuckle White turkey for a few meals now and my husband has had no problems with it. To me, it tastes as good as the Butterball.

Thanks for the list, especially the pumpkin filling. I'm thinking of making a pumpkin mousse and wasn't sure how to go about it. Now I can use the filling and cool whip in the recipe. There is no crust to worry about and it's delicious.

I was also thinking of making a pie for the holiday with apples, raisins, and cranberries. Which crust mix do you recommend?

I made this fruit mixture before and served it warm. It's a simple easy dessert to make. Just slice the apples into bite size pieces, put them in a good size pan with some sugar, cinammon, and water, let them get to a boil, throw in the fresh cranberries, turn the stove down to simmer, throw in the raisins and a bit of corn starch to thicken. Simmer until the cranberries are popped open, remove from heat and allow to cool a bit before serving. It will thicken more while cooling. I did put a bit of Cool Whip on mine. Yummy.

That sounds like a wonderful filling for a crumble! Might add some walnuts to it. We're eating at home this year (first year gluten-free and don't want to put the in-laws out) and want to take a dessert when we go visit. This would definitely work! :)

Such fabulous ideas on this thread! Thanks!

Another quick and easy dessert recipe -

Jello Whip

1 0.6 oz. Box Jello (any flavor) - I like Strawberry

1 1/2 cup boiling water

2 1/2 cups ice cubes

1 tub of Cool Whip - Defrosted

Stir boiling water into Jello mix for 2 minutes until completely disolved. Mix in ice cubes until slightly thickened. Remove remaining ice.

Add Cool Whip. Mix with blender until Jello and Cool Whip are blended well. Refrigerate.

There is a 10 year old post in this forum on Edy's and Dreyer's ice cream. The information is somewhat outdated and the thread is closed to further comment, so here is a new one. Edy's And Dreyer's Grand Vanilla Bean Ice Cream - 1.5 Quart is labeled "Gluten Free". This is a different answer than years gone by. I don't know the answer for any other flavor at this moment. On 1 May, 2026, Edy's website says: "As a general rule, the gluten in Edy's and Dreyer's® frozen dessert products is present only in the added bakery products, such as cookies, cake or brownies. We always label the eight major food allergens on our package by their common name. We recommend to always check the label for the most current information before purchasing and/or consuming a product. The exception to this rule is our Slow Churned French Silk frozen dairy dessert, which contains gluten in the natural flavors." https://www.icecream.com/us/en/brands/edys-and-dreyers/faq It seems that Edy's and Dreyer's are more celiac-friendly than they were 10 years ago. Once I found enough information to make today's buying decision, I stopped researching.

probably not your situation @Mimiof2, but allow me to add one more to @trents list of celiac-mimics: "olmesartan-induced sprue-like enteropathy"

My dad had an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm.  Fortunately, it was discovered during an exam.  The doctor could feel my dad's heart beating in his stomach/abdomen.  The aneurysm burst when the doctor first touched it in surgery.  Since he was already hooked up to the bypass machine, my dad survived ten more years.  Close call! Triple A's can press on the nerves in the spinal cord causing leg pain.  I'm wondering if bowing the head might have increased the pressure on an aneurysm and then the nerves.   https://gulfcoastsurgeons.com/understanding-abdominal-aortic-aneurysm-symptoms-and-causes/ Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Presenting as a Claudication https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4040638/

You have an odd story there. To me, the mechanical trigger suggests a mechanical problem and lower leg pain is a classic sciatica symptom. The fact that the clear mechanical linkage is no longer there does not take away from the fact that it was - maybe something shifted and the simple alignment is no longer there. There's also a good chance I am wrong and it's something else entirely. @Scott Adams's mention of shingles is interesting. It seems possible but unlikely to me, but who knows. However, I am writing here to reinforce the idea of getting the shingles vaccine. Ask anyone who has ever had shingles and they will bend your ear telling you how bad it is. I watched my wife go through it and it scared the bejeebers out of me. Even if you had the chicken pox vaccine, you really want to get the shingles vaccine.

Oddly this effect has gone now, just happened yesterday evening, the nerve pain is now back to its usual "unpredictable" random self again - but that was the only time I ever had some mechanical trigger for it, don't know why! There's no (or wasn't) actual pain in my neck - it was inside the leg, but when I looked down, now though, the leg pain just comes and goes randomly as before again.
