I just did 100 sit ups, I hope I do it each day to loose weight. I have celiac where it is hard to loose weight, and I also have thyroid disease which don help loose weight. So no matter what I do I cant loose weight. I did loose weight before, but then it came back n I cant get rid of it! I remember my friend sayin she use to do sit ups each night to get in shape in the stomach department...So I was like, hm...She is a toothpick tho so I said I will do 100 since I'm fat. Just hope it works. Just gotta figure out what to do for my bum and legs hahaha.

I am almost 18. Never had a date and I have no friends. Is it cuz I'm fat? I mean, I try and talk, usually I do with this girl in class (I go once a week, its a computer school). But I don't know what to reply with...I think I lost all my social abilities lol. I can talk with people, like last year, I talked with everyone, but no one would want to hang out or nothing...I don't get it.

Step 1: Don't stress out. First off, stress only makes you tend towards weight gain. Second, it sounds like this is something you're going to be stuck with for a while, but it isn't your fault. Knowing that it's a thyroid thing, I mean, you definitely need to remember not to blame yourself. I did that for almost seven years. I'd get depressed, eat more, get fatter, then beat myself up on the inside, none of which is healthy. Accept it, deal with it, and learn to love yourself a little more each day. It isn't very hard - you have a wonderful body, no matter what it looks like! Curves are easily twice as beautiful as bony twiggy bits. It's your inner beauty that is really going to shine through, anyway, so take a few moments out of your day to cultivate that, first.

If you really are intent on working out though, kudos for doing situps instead of crunches. I do crunches. They'll keep you fit, but not quite as chiseled as situps would, so you're already a step ahead of most people. The biggest, most vital thing I can tell you here is to keep going. Once you've done situps about a week in a row it'll become a habit - just do not stop, ever. Do not take a day off, do not use being tired or crampy or overworked as an excuse to skip a day. Once you do, it'll form a habit and it will be twice as hard to get back into things as it was to start them in the first place. I know. It's pretty easy to work your butt and legs. Taking a long walk every day will make a big difference. I do the "electric chair" thing, where you sit against a wall at a right angle, like you're sitting on an invisible chair. This is an amazing workout, and you'll feel it in just a couple seconds. Don't feel bad if you can only make it a minute or so, that's all most people can do. Do about fifty lunges or squats while you're at it. Those are a lot easier to show than to explain in words, so I'd do a quick Yahoo search for pics if you're interested.

Overall, I think you'll be just fine with whatever you decide. Just remember not to give up on yourself and your goals, and you'll be not only sucessful but a generally beautiful person. Best of luck!

Hi there! I cruz around here but try not to post to much-just read ;o) I wanted to tell you that maybe you can try to keep a food journal. Just to track yourself and also write how you feel when you are eating. Drink plenty of water. I know, water yuck! But after a while your body will want water in place of soda (which is not not good for us anyway with the coloring!!) Sometimes when I think I am hungry I will drink some water and feel full but not always!! Try some gooood "red delious" apples.That is a good kind they are so sweet and not bland. I have battled weight so I know just how you feel. If just feels like it will never end but one day it will. YOu just have to keep your chin up and be thankful for the things you have-focus on them on not so much yourself. Look at yourself as a being in place of an object. You are a special person. I am kind of alone in this celiac so if you want, feel free to email me and we can chat!! I could use a buddy ;o) I wish you well and hey, cheer up it is the Holiday season and not a good time to worry about your weighta nyway! That is what I say :P

Alright, I'm not a teenager, but I figured I'd answer anyway :)

The best way to lose weight is through a combination of cardio and weight training. A pound of muscle burn 50 calories per day even if you sit in bed all day by upping your metabolism whereas a pound of fat burns no calories. So if you add a pound of muscle, you'll naturally lose a pound every 2-3 months. Combine that with some cardio, and you're on your way. Situps are a great place to start here.

I'd recommend doing some weight training. It would probably be helpful to have maybe one session with a personal trainer so he/she can teach you proper technique and make sure you're working opposing muscles (like you want to work you tricep and bicep, not just one of them so you are strong both extending and flexing the arm). I'm assuming you're in high school? I bet your gym teacher would even be willing to show you some weight training and you may be able to use a weight room at school.

It also helps to do a sport you enjoy. Maybe try something like racquetball or snowboarding this time of year. It burns calories and is fun! It's also a good social activity. Help shovel the driveway, go play in the snow (I guess I'm assuming you live in a snowy place, we had a big snowstorm yesterday so that's all I can think about :)) Help your parents with household chores like vacuuming and washing dishes - these everyday activities burn a surprising number of calories.

You should also take a look at your diet. Try to fill up on some veggies before moving to the main meal. Buy a cookbook and play with recipes (cooking at home is almost always better than getting takeout). As your health teacher for some tips to get you started.

      @Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed.       Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!

      Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?

      I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.
