Has anyone else had success with "food combining"? A lot of my digestive issues have gotten better since I started to follow the rules. Does anyone else know about it? I only know the bare minimum facts and I want to know more because it's really working! Just eating fruit and fructose seperate from all other foods has reduced my bloating and pain quite a bit!

I have never heard of 'food-combining'. Can you explain what you know and where you heard about it?

Did you read the books by Harvey Diamond, Fit for life. I tried to include a link but it wasn't working

I read his books years ago and followed them for about 3 years. It can be difficult to follow to the letter but not really now that I follow gluten free to the letter! The idea behind it is your stomach produces different acids to digest meats and different acids to digest carbs. When you combine these acids they neutralize each other and your food does not digest but instead rots. Sounds pretty bad. Just like any other diet when you start it you cleanse first which works very well. He really encourages eating a lot of vegetables and as much natural foods as possible. The more processed it is the more harmful it is. Since I don't eat breads I don't really worry about this anymore. I am just so darn hungry that all I can do is think about stuffing my mouth! When my hunger calms down and I think my gut is healing then I am going to give this another look.

When we ate this way, we lost weight and felt pretty good. It worked better for my ex but then he wasn't gluten intolerant either.

Hi BakingBarb,

I'm glad to hear that someone else has tried it out and felt good in doing so! It has really helped me. It IS hard though, you are definitely right about that. Especially because fruit is what I practically live on, and it's my favorite part of my diet. After a meal I want to grab a piece of fruit so badly for dessert, but I know that I can't because my stomach acids aren't ready for it...and I'll get some extreme bloating and stomach pains. But anyways, I'd love to hear how it goes once you try it again!

Silk,

BakingBarb had a pretty good description of the theories behind food combining...but basically the idea is that since your stomach produces different acids to digest different types of foods, especially acidic food and alkaline food (im not sure if those were exactly the right terms), you shouldn't eat those foods together because the stomach acids will cancel eachother out and you won't digest or absorb your foods properly, and you'll also experience a lot of discomfort and issues. Basically you can't mix fruit with any meal, and you can't mix protein and carbs. It really helps!

It's been going very well *knock on wood*, but I'm just wondering, has anyone figured out how to make a protein shake when you're following the rules? I have sugar free soy protein powder and I'm not sure if it's okay to mix with fruit. Any suggestions?

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
