Fertility And Celiac

I am new here. I am frustrated with doctors and trying to find info on my own. I was told that I have PCOS which is related to insulin resistance. Anyway, I am trying the gluten free diet because I have noticed that it has helped to regulate my cycles. But yet I haven't been able to ovulate yet (according to blood work). My question is I am wondering if anyone who was having infertility problems before the gluten free diet has been able to achieve pregnancy now that they have been following the diet. I am also hopefull that it will help in my hair loss struggle. Thanks in advance for the info.

There are a few people here who were infertile, and finally got pregnant after following the gluten-free diet for a few months. If things were out of whack for a while, don't expect an immediate fix. It takes time to heal before things will be normal.

Be patient, it could be six months to a year before things will regulate themselves. I hope that you will be successful and get pregnant eventually!

I am sure some others will chime in soon, who actually went through the same thing as you. My problem was the opposite....... I had no problems getting pregnant, but had eight miscarriages. I am sure it was because of celiac disease.

My sister and mother had major fertility problems before being gluten-free. Don't wait on the doctors, go gluten-free asap. My sister tried for 5 years to get preg and then only months after finally going gluten-free got pregnant. I wish she had waited longer to get herself healed a bit more but she has a healthy baby. She had severe endometriosis and ovarian cysts constantly. My mother had 13 miscarriages before her first live birth and had severe endometriosis before going gluten-free. I personally did not have periods regularly until going gluten-free, partly I bet because I also experienced wasting from the celiac disease as well. My hair fell out like crazy but this also ceased when I got on the diet.

Welcome, @Melvin McDowell! Just wanted you to know you are replying to a post that was made 21 years ago. It is unlikely that person is still monitoring this thread, especially since they are a "guest" poster and not registered as a member.

My feeling is that histamine intolerance/MCAS is doesn't get enough press in the medical world and is greatly underdiagnosed.

I just saw in Trent’s response something about the vitamins. Good to know.

Have you heard anything about being celiac and pills, vitamins not absorbing into your system?  I hope that makes sense. Basically, you don’t get the full effect. There is something that helps the absorption, like Vit C?? Thanks for all of your help.

Updating to note that it has been over a month since I initially wrote Prana and they haven't provided a response to my question about what testing limits (ppm) they use now. I've sent them a couple reminder emails but nothing. Booo.
