Costochondritis Back Again

I am having problems once again with costochondritis(sp?).I thought I was about to have a heart attack last month when I went in to see my primary doc.He dx it as Costochondritis and put me on Mobic.....which helped out after a few days.I have parents with heart problems so we did the stress test for good measure and everything came out good...no heart problems as of today...only cholestrol @222...which I'm working on through diet and exercise.I quit taking the medicine because I felt better and also I was concered about what damage it may be doing to my system. My GI said only take it if I was in bad pain.Well the pain came back with a vengence and the burning feeling in my chest came back as well.It feels like bad heartburn. My GI says I have a refluc problem also.

I'm wondering if it's a gluten/celiac thing or is it not connected?? I can't see what I might have eaten that would have been contaminated....but I do consider myself a newbie still....6 weeks into this.

Just when I started bragging to everyone about feeling super...I'm down again! But as my Dad would say...."I woke up today...so that makes it a good day"

I was diagnoised with this about 17 yrs. ago when I went to the doctor with pains in my chest. The doctor knew it wasn't heart related for some reason. He asked if I'd been coughing alot lately and I had. He told me what it was and I mentioned I was also doing bench presses with a barbell. Both those things caused irritation along the breastbone.

I was just told to take ibuprofin and he gave me some cough med. told me to quit doing the bench presses....

Anyway it went away. I never went back to doing the presses because it just wasn't worth the pain. If you have reflux is it causing a cough?

If it is I would take care of it because its probably causing the irritation. It could be tied to celiac if your still getting stomach upsets and bloating, acidity or not enough acid in stomach because the symptoms are the same. It would take a gastro. to figure that out.

I have not had any coughing with the costochondritis. The heartburn or burning in the chest is what I have along with the definite chest pain on my right side.I haven't had the left side pain as of yet.I have the tender spots in the chest/sternum are as well.I did have stomach discomfort last night with it....as well as very minor stomach pain.I had bloating for months until I stopped the gluten.I very rarely get that anymore unless it's a gluten slip up.I wonder what would make this condition reoccur off and on.

I do notice that the pain is worse when I walk on my treadmill. It is by no means strenous walking...just a brisk walk.I read somewhere ,that exercise would help the pain and somewhere else not to exercise when the pain was present....confusing

The GI put me on Previcid (omneprazole) about 3 months ago....I take one a day as of now.

Welcome to the forum, @linnylou73! Are you claiming this based on a reaction or based upon actual testing?

This varies a lot from person to person. I include foods that are not certified gluten-free but are labelled "gluten-free", while super sensitive people only use certified gluten-free. Both types of products have been found to contain gluten, so there are no guarantees either way: It you are in the super sensitive group, eating a whole foods based diet where you prepare everything is the safest bet, but it's also difficult. Eating out is the the most risky, even if a restaurant has a gluten-free menu. I also include items that are naturally gluten-free, for example refried beans, tuna, pasta sauces, salsas, etc., which have a low overall risk of contamination.

I avoid turmeric now because I'm on low dose aspirin, but used to use this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08HYBN4DJ My recipes always vary according to what I have on hand, but my base is a frozen berry mix from Trader Joe's: https://www.traderjoes.com/home/products/pdp/fruits-greens-smoothie-blend-075603 In the warmer months I include herbs from my garden like Italian parsley and basil. I add almond milk as well.
