Hi all

Mine's the 'chronic fatigue and coeliacs' post below. I thought I'd write a new one here since there have been some developments.

I had my blood test a week last Friday and rang up the following friday to be told the doctor was out. The receptionist told me 'the results were all within normal range.' But she wouldn't tell me which test they did and how normal.

Since I am so sick of lying in bed and not even trying anything I am going gluten and dairy free tomorrow. My father has agreed to do it with me and my boyfriend when he comes to stay a few times a week. We are hoping to prepare most food from scratch. however when he's busy etc we will need to prepare things from jars. I know to look for gluten/wheat/rye/barley/oats etc in the ingredients but beyond that I'm at a loss. The ingredients are baffling to me, things like 'emulsified soya lectin' and all sorts of words that I just don't understand!

Tips?! I'm in the UK so brands probably won't translate very well.

      I didn't ask a doctor about this actually. I did ask several doctors a long time ago and they told me gluten has nothing to do with hashimoto's. One of them told me to do a gluten challenge to test for celiac, but at the time I was in graduate school so couldn't afford to be even more ill than I was. If you have the symptoms, I really don't advise you to do a gluten challenge. It messed me up mentally and physically for months. At the same time, I benefitted from doing the challenge in the sense that it convinced me that all my symptoms were truly from gluten - even stuff like insomnia! So now I am terrified to eat gluten, whereas before I would have a little once in a while and not notice anything dramatic.

      I am in a similar situation where I can't feasibly do a gluten challenge but have all the symptoms and I have 2 celiac genes. I'm curious if your doctor advised you to eat as if you had a diagnosis or if they were more dismissive about it.

      Negative, although I had most of the symptoms of celiac disease. I now eat as if I had a diagnosis.
