What other diseases can cause anemia. My step-sons cbc came back today that he was anemic. He is still in denial about the celiac thing tho. Should i have the dr test for other vitamin deficiency or can parasites cause anemia and maybe do an stool test. She just said to give him an vitamin and he should be ok. Im not buying that.

Hi, I was diagnosed with anemia, for quite some time before I finally relented and got tested for celiac. I would say I was in denial, big time, for awhile there. He might as well rule out celiac as a cause, if that's what you suspect? The things we tell ourselves, huh? :)

Just want to mention that I believe that 3 different deficiencies can cause anemia: B12, Iron, or Folate. I think they should look at why there is a vitamin deficiency, is he not absorbing vitamins due to damaged villi? If it is a B12 deficiency they can give shots of course.

I have been playing phone tag with the dr all day. I want to ask her to run an vitamin deficiency panel. She left a message and said it was only a slight deficiency. But i dont want to wait til it is so bad that he is in the hospital. He has had 2 inconclusive celiac panels in the past. One showed high igg scores, the second one showed iga deficient. We have not seen an gi dr. He has been in denial about giving up gluten for months now. he also tested positive threw enterolab and carries one celiac gene.

They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

@JettaGirl, "Coeliac" is the British spelling of "celiac". Same disease.

This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.

I was told it was to see how much damage has been caused. But just told CT with contrast not any other name for it.
