Yogurt Cheese

I have questions about yogurt cheese. Thanks for all of your replies.

Is it good?

Is it easy to make...do you have a recipe? I found one for dairy yogurt cheese but wanted to ask about it first.

Can you make it with soy yogurt?

Does it work good for casseroles like lasagna or enchiladas?

How do you use it?

Is it like cream cheese?

My intention is to make it with soy yogurt and use it in a casserole like lasagna.

Will it work?

Thank you ;)

I think what they mean by yogurt cheese is plain yogurt, plopped into a coffee filter in a strainer, left over a bowl to catch the dripping whey overnight. I do this with regular yogurt to make it thick like Greek strained yogurt. Prop a sieve up over a bowl, line with coffee filter or cheesecloth, put in yogurt, cover if you like, and let sit. I do it in the fridge, but if you're going to use it right away you can probably do it at room temp. It gets a consistency between sour cream and cream cheese. I haven't tried it in recipes. It will still taste like yogurt or sour cream. I think if your soy yogurt is the consistency of dairy yogurt you can probably do the same and thicken it up.

I used yogurt cheese for months before I ventured out into other cheeses. I bought the prepackaged cheese in from the deli case at the grocery and it looks just like a half moon of cheese. You can shred it, slice it, cube it, whatever.

Is it good?

Yes, it has a unique flavor like a swiss blend.

I have made homemade yogurt cheese, but it takes for ever...at least my recipe did and it was the same as lpellegr.

I shredded it and used it for everything. I would suggest adding a bit of salt to taste.

Is it like cream cheese?

The prepackaged stuff isn't, but what I remember is that the homemade cheese is soft.

Check out your deli case...you might find a short cut.

If you have hemorrhoids 1x weekly I don't see how you have time to heal from one episode before you experience another one, unless each one is a very minor event. Have you consulted a physician about your hemorrhoid issue? It's not normal to be having an episode every week unless it is really one episode that is not completely healing between weekly flareups.

No I haven't had one since 2021. I rarely have more than 1 per week.

Sorry, I see that now as I reread your original post. You say you have hemorrhoids "only once a week" now. When I develop hemorrhoids, which is once every few years now, it generally takes 3-4 days for healing to take place. So, it doesn't seem like you could have much relief time between episodes if you have them weekly. Have you had a lower GI scoping done recently?

Everyday I eat a medium to large apple in the morning and a large banana at night. I eat a cup of oatmeal in the evening. The ezekiel wheat bread I eat has a good amount of fiber. I haven't dealt with constipation for at least a year. Most of the time my feces are soft.
