Little Bumps On My Hands

Hi guys, Ever since I have had gut reactions to gluten I have also had these little bumps come up on my hands.

They do not generally itch only sometimes

They start off as a little blister thats red but i'm not sure if it is because I play with them! :D They are usually 1mm in diameter and most are on my fingers.

When I was on gluten they were always there and the doc gave me steroid cream that never worked and told me I'm allergic to something that comes in contact with my skin told me not to use powdered gloves any more for nappies(I work with children) <_<

When I went gluten free they stayed around for a month or so then slowly vanished.

I accidently ate some gluten and around three to four days later they started to come up again. the blister which is painful to touch like a pin prick will stay for maybe a couple of days to a week then go flat but still painful when you run your nail over it for another three weeks and then goes away if gluten is gone

I dont get a lot if im accidently glutened and the most Ive had when I was on gluten has been a couple of dozen at any time but they go away and reappear in other spots

Is this DH? or contact dermatitis like the doc suggests

ps I was still using the gloves when the spots vanished the only thing I cut out of my environment was the gluten

Sure does sound like it. If you want a conclusive diagnosis, helpful if you are still in the testing stage for celiac, then ask for an appointment with a dermatologist. They can biopsy the area next to the blisters and look for the antibodies there. A diagnosis of DH is a diagnosis of celiac.

:o:o:o Thankyou David!!!!!!

These spots (first picture) are exactly how my little bumps look when they pop or are nearing the end of their cycle.

I'm glad to know what they are.

I will say however that they are definately linked to gluten intake. I have tested time and time again everytime I have intestinal symptoms these reappear new ones . They were at their worst before I went gluten free for the first time. New ones only appear after recent gluten episodes

Thanks again you have put my mind at rest.

I have the exact same reaction! If I get glutened (even a tiny amount) I get tiny little clear blisters on my fingers. They itch at first and hurt like crazy and are very deep. Then, the blisters pop and leave little holes, and if I have lots of them in the same place my skin will crack where they were and really hurt. I hate it! I used to have this all the time (along with some nasty rashes on my legs etc.) but since going gluten-free I usually don't get the rashes. However, if I've had a bad glutening I can expect the rash on my hands to come back within a couple of days...and then last up to a couple of weeks! Yipes. Dh is my guess, but one dr. I saw said it was some kind of eczema. I get eczema, too...and it does *not* normally form those tiny deep blisters...

hmm, I have gotten these a few times. A couple of times this summer, thought it was poison ivy. My bumps itch like crazy though, which is why they seemed like poison ivy. something to keep an eye out for though.

There are other Celiac genes. HLA DQ 2 and HLA DQ 8 show up in people from Northern European descent.   People of Mediterranean descent have HLA DQ 7.  People of Asian descent have HLA DQ 9.   There's other Indigenous populations that have other HLA genes that code for Celiac disease.   Are you still having symptoms?   What do you include in your diet?  Are you vegetarian? Are you taking any prescription medication?  Omeprazole?  Metformin?   Do you have anemia?  Thyroid problems? Are you taking any vitamins or herbal supplements?

There are eight essential B vitamins.  They are all water soluble.  Any excess of B vitamins is easily excreted by the kidneys.   Thiamine is Vitamin B 1.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Benfotiamine and TTFD are forms of Thiamine that the body can utilize very easily.   The form of Thiamine in the supplements you mentioned is Thiamine Mononitrate, a form that the body does not absorb well and does not utilize well.  Only about thirty percent of the amount on the label is actually absorbed in the small intestine.  Less than that can actually be used by the body.  Manufacturers add thiamine mononitrate to their products because it's cheap and shelf-stable.  Thiamine and other B vitamins break down when exposed to light and heat and over time.  Thiamine Mononitrate is a form that does not break down over time sitting on a shelf waiting for someone to buy them.  What makes Thiamine Mononitrate shelf stable makes it difficult for the body to turn into a useable form.  In fact, it takes more thiamine to turn it into a useable form.   Gastrointestinal Beriberi is a localized shortage of Thiamine in the gastrointestinal tract.  High carbohydrate meals can result in gastrointestinal symptoms of Gastric Beriberi.  Fiber is a type of carbohydrate.  So, high fiber/carbohydrate snacks could trigger Gastric Beriberi.   Since blood tests for Thiamine and other B vitamins are so inaccurate, the World Health Organization recommends trying Thiamine and looking for health improvement because it's safe and nontoxic.
