Bowel Issues Started Up Again

After a few really good days and a week of feeling really good, she's had bad diarrhea again today and the day before yesterday. Yesterday it was better but not great. I don't think she's gotten any gluten anywhere. It makes me wonder if something else is also going on. She drank orange juice tonight before her tummy started hurting. She was at a friends house who told me everything she ate. Suposedly no gluten but she did eat a TON of potato chips. She's having some behavioral issues at school, not being able to keep her hands to herself and talking when she should not. Impulsive behavior.

All I can do is hope that with time, this gets better. I'm stressed.

I am very new to this, but it sounds to me like she must have been glutened. DD was great all week, found 1 gerber puff (about the size of a peanut, but full of air, not solid) and had horrid diarrhea. It doesn't seem to take much for these little ones who are so sensitive. I hope things get better soon!

Were you sure the potato chips contained no gluten? I found out that pretty much all of them contain some of it! :S I will pray that she gets better soon!!!

I agree that it does sound like gluten. Especially if she was at a friends house......I always get nervous if my kids eat at someone else's house. It is hard for someone to truly understand cross contamination issues, and the gluten free lifestyle unless you actually have to live it. My parents and I are very close, and my kids spend alot of time over their house, but even after three years of teaching them about gluten free, mistakes still happen.

My dd has had moments where she acts like she was glutened and I never find out the source. It's at those times I figure it's most likely cross contamination from crumbs on someone's hands, or something she touched at school, etc. We just plow through, double check everything we've eaten in the past week or more, and usually the issue resolves itself. It is tough to figure out what's going on with our kiddos....hope she gets better soon!

Thanks guys for the ideas and support. I am at this strange stage where we are not certain whether it's celiac or not and our doc said not to worry about cross contamination. But maybe she's more sensitive then we imagine. This is such a big learning experience! I plan on doing the DNA test soon so I can at least know whether she has the gene or not. But.... I guess even if it's gulten intolerance and not celiac, you can still be sensitive enough to need to avoid CC?!?

I have to agree, my little guy is extremely sensitive. He always poops in his pants when he has had either gluten or dairy. It really does not take much - a crumb, is all it takes. I have to agree with the next poster on that. Cross contamination is an issue here, it's taken DH a while to wrap his head around it but our DS is VERY sensitive to gluten. As soon as he has a gluten flare up we check and recheck everything he has eaten. I would say more often than not we trace it to a cross contamination issue. Say, accidentally using the same knife for his bread that was used to butter wheat bread (My DD's bread). To be honest, I want us all to be gluten-free. I just think it's a healthier life style anyway beyond my DS's gluten issues.

      Cold/flu or gluten poisoning? Hello. I've had another similar episode. I find it very difficult to differentiate between the symptoms of a cold or flu and those caused by gluten poisoning. In fact, I don't know if my current worsening is due to having eaten something that disagreed with me or if the cold I have has caused my body, which is hypersensitive, to produce symptoms similar to those of gluten poisoning.

      I'm no longer dealing with constipation. I got my liver test last month and it was in normal range. Two years ago I did have a vitamin D deficiency but I'm know taking vitamin D3 pills. Last month I got my vitamin D checked and it was in normal range. I don't believe I've had my choline checked. However, I do drink almond milk eat Greek yogurt on a daily basis.

      Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS) can be associated with low ferritin and iron deficiency. Once Celiac Disease (1% of the population affected) has been ruled out by tests the next step is to check for Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (10% of the population affected) by eliminating gluten for a trial period, then re-introduce Gluten Challange. Have you been supplementing Iron? How are your liver enzymes? Low levels of ferritin indicate iron deficiency, while  59% transferrin saturation indicates high iron levels.  Possibly indicating Fatty Liver Disease.  Choline is crucial for liver health, and deficiency is a known trigger for Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver.  Some experts say that less than 10% eat the the Food and Nutrition Board established Adequate Intake that are based on the prevention of liver damage. Severe constipation and hemorrhoids may be linked to a bile or choline deficiency.  "Ninety-five percent of phospholipids (PLs) in bile is secreted as phosphatidylcholine or lecithin."  Fatty acid composition of phospholipids in bile in man   Deficiency of these bile salts causes the bile to get thick. Some people with Celiac Disease are misdiagnosed with Gall Bladder bile issues.  Removal of the gallbladder provides only temporary relief. Whether or not celiac disease or NCGS are your issues you need to look at your vitamin D blood level.

      If you have hemorrhoids 1x weekly I don't see how you have time to heal from one episode before you experience another one, unless each one is a very minor event. Have you consulted a physician about your hemorrhoid issue? It's not normal to be having an episode every week unless it is really one episode that is not completely healing between weekly flareups.
