There is a bread recipe that calls for Unflavored Gelatin as well as some other recipes.

I bought the Knox brand, but have not used them yet

What is the point of Unflavored Gelatin?

Can you omit it? Or sub?

Thank you very much!

Have a nice weekend :D

It gels. I would not omit. I've used it before.

Gelatin adds extra protein (helps loaf stability and promotes elasticity to your recipe), and reduces crumbliness. You may be able to leave it out, it really depends on the recipe. I usually use it when a recipe calls for it.

You can sub agar agar flakes for it but I haven't found any yet to try. Agar flakes is from a veggie source and gelatin from animals. Vegans don't use gelatin. Can't tell you much more w/o reading up on it again. My dd has been a vegan for 3 months and won't use the gelatin anymore. It has really helped her look at her food differently as far as health is concerned. Its gross how they make gelatin. <_<

Carol Fenster-it adds moisture and helps bind ingredients together.

Thank you everyone for the replies.

Purple -- I saved the link you sent and looked at it thanks :)

I think I saw the Agar-agar at the health food store here in town -- might take a look at that. Thanks

Hope you all had a nice weekend.

Thanks again.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
