Enterolab - Stool Sample For Gluten Sensitivity

Will this show if I have celiac? Or just if I am sensitive to gluten? Sorry, I'm new to this and have no idea. I really cant afford the $400 test or the other $250 test. I guess if the $99 test shows I am sensitive to gluten, I could then order the more expensive, knowing it's worth it to know? Any insight? Is the $99 not even worth it? What tests have others done here through them? Is the $99 stool culture for celiac through them just as effective as the Biocard Celiac blood test?

Enterolab cannot diagnose Celiac Disease...only gluten sensitivity. For $99 you will be tested for gluten sensitivity. It is up to you to decide whether or not you believe that Enterolab testing is credible. Blood testing and biopsy are the standard testing methods for Celiac Disease. Stool testing is a new, and unproven method. Dr. Fine from Enterolab has not published his research for peer review, after years of promising to do so. I'm not familiar with the Biocard Celiac blood test, but I think your best bet is to go to your doctor, and ask him/her to order a full Celiac Panel. If your results are positive, your doctor can perform a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. If your results are negative and you are still experiencing symptoms, maybe then it would be a good idea to pursue alternative testing. Then there's always the option of just going on the gluten-free diet and seeing if it makes you feel better. You don't need an official diagnosis. Good luck,

-Brian

I think the best you will be able to do is to find out if gluten, or at least wheat, barley or rye is an intentional ingredient in a smoke product and only the manufacturer can answer that question. Since smokes are regulated by the AFT and not the FDA, allergens are not required to be declared in the labeling.

Welcome to the forum, @brian weinstein! Gluten is a protein found in wheat barley and rye kernels. Pectin is a polysaccharide (a very complex sugar) found in the cell walls of fruits and vegetables. It is most commonly used as a thickening agent in food products, particularly jellies. So, pectin is naturally gluten free. That is not to the same as saying the cigar is gluten free.  Personally, I am reluctant to text you. I think most of us would feel the same way. Too many people already have access to our cell phone numbers.
