Eastern European gluten-free Food Lists?

I am living in Serbia, and travel to surrounding countries somtimes. I am having big troubles staying gluten-free on a consistent basis. Is there any gluten-free list out there that has Eastern European brands and products on it? I have been using this site a lot to help me learn more about being gluten-free, but there are very few US brands here for me to buy.

My story:

I am only 25 years old, and I was self-diagnosed this past summer, July 2009, after going to the family doctor and having them suggest that maybe I was sensitive to gluten. My symptoms were bad enough (bone and joint pain, bloating, exhaustion, weightloss, abdominal pain) that I quickly went on a complete gluten-free diet and felt better physically than I had in many years. Then in September I moved to Serbia. Little did I know about being a celiac at that time, and my life has been trial by error these past 8 months. Just as I start to get more healthy and gain a little weight, I start eating something I shouldn't and have to start all over again. Currently I only wiegh 150lbs. but am 6'3" tall. I believe that I am underwieght quite a bit.

Currently, I have a friend trying to find a good nutritionist or dietition for me to go see. Any suggestions on that?

Can anyone help me? I feel somewhat alone here in this part of the world concering gluten-free stuff.

Hmmm, I am not familiar with any brands over there. When I went to Europe (Spain and Portugal) I just looked at their grocery store, in the health section, for gluten-free goods. Then, I would carry them with me. When I travel in the US, I usually bring my own food too or stick to fruit and veggies (which can be bought anywhere). Sorry I can't be more of a help!

Ohhhhh, I stocked up on that before I came home, and about last year my local stores started selling their products. Not the same exact stuff but still yummie!

Brian I do know for sure Russia has way more resources than Ukraine for example who has next to nothing. But even in Ukraine (Kyiv) I was able to find in the larger markets Orgran gluten-free Pastas, and cookies. If you contact Orgran... I am sure they will tell you where to find gluten-free in Serbia! Срећно!

I STRONGLY suggest for you to go here to drop down window and switch it from inside australia to outside australia..write to them they are a wonderful company. And no I do not work for them, but they saved the day when I was in Ukraine over the course of 3 months. I cried when I found them in Mandarin Plaza in Kyiv!

Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

That sounds so very likely in my case! I will absolutely ask my doctor on my next bone check coming up in March... Thanks a lot!

Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!

Hello good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has ever brought their anti-allergy pills? I have been wanting to use their Cetirizine HCI 10mg. They are called HealthA2Z and distributed by Allegiant Health.I’m also Asthmatic and these allergies are terrible for me but I also want to be sure they don’t have any sort of gluten compound.    I have tried calling them but to no avail. Has anyone ever used them? If so, did you had any problems or no problems at all?    thank you
