Testing After Going Gluten Free?

Hello all!

First I'd like to say what a comfort this board has been to me, since being sick! Thanks to you all for sharing your knowledge, and helping newbies!

I've been sick for several months, trying to self-diagnose, no insurance!

Symptoms led me to IBS, Crohns, Colitis, and finally Celiac.

I had always eaten a lot of wheat, breads, cereals, muffins, crackers and snacks. When first getting sick, before even knowing about Celiac, I just felt a natural instinct to stay away from wheat, felt like it irritated my stomach even more! Started buying white bread instead of wheat.

I have been gluten free for about a month now, with a few CC incidents. I am feeling much better, but still have some symptoms. I now have insurance, and my family wants me to get tested. After reading the boards, I see that once going gluten free, the tests will not work. Is there any test that I can take that will show Celiac without going back to gluten? I just can't put myself through that again!

In order to have a diagnosis of Celiac, you must be eating gluten and have the bloodwork and/or biopsy done in order for it to be as accurate as possible.

You could have the gene testing done to show if you have one of the two genes associated with Celiac, HLADQ2 or HLA DQ8. About 1/3 of the American population has the gene, but only about 1% (or less) of the population has Celiac, so just having the gene itself does not equal Celiac. But, combined with the clinical picture, it can be a useful aid for some people.

      We were flabergasted that the owner would not acknowledge a $50 e-gift card I purchased for my celiac wife. My wife tried to open it in the store and was informed there had been a system change and they could not find the record. No worries, she was told, just talk to management. Six months later, and numerous absurd back and forths, and the owner literally informs me there have been "bad actors", so she can't make good on this lost gift card. In other words, she accused me of lying and committing fraud... over $50! Please be careful with your orders and purchases here.

      Yes, some people do get withdrawal from gluten but gluten withdrawal doesn't usually cause gut pain. Maybe more like general body aches and discomfort. We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic. This can damage the stomach lining if you eat it too often. Especially if your stomach lining is already compromised. Ibuprofen inhibits the body's ability to rebuild the stomach's protective mucosal lining. That's why it can cause peptic ulcers. As strange as it may sound, low level irritation/inflammation stimulates the body to rebuild the stomach lining. There are two steps in this rebuilding process known as COX 1 and COX 2. Ibuprofen represses both COX 1 and COX 2. Celecoxcib, a prescription anti inflammatory, inhibits only COX 2, making it less likely to cause damage to the gut lining.

      Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen  I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce.   Something is making my pain so much worse  I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs.  Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever would do. I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding
