Hi Everyone,

I just joined up, I have decided to go down a gluten-free road to see if I feel any better, I follow a healthy diet which is the reason why I questioned intolerances because I can't possibly have fatigue/constipation etc on what I eat, haha believe me! ;) I should be jumping through hoops - no alcohol, no sugar, no refined foods ... but most of what I eat is like a squirrel ... pumpkin seeds, carrot juice, herbal tea, apples, dried figs, fresh salads, soup, hemp seeds, probiotics, digestive enzymes!!!

So anyway, I just find it a little frustrating because I don't know if i am just trying to blame my dull behaviour away on a bit of pasta - because I do not have super-serious symptoms ... or is that just because i don't eat a lot of the *bad* foods?

The gluten I ate was maybe once a week wholewheat pasta & every other day rye bread for lunch - I do not drink milk, try & avoid cheese but it might creep into somethings.

Anyway, symptoms vary but worst would be constipation considering my diet... unless I just eat soup for days & general feelings of malaise & no energy (but blood pressure is fine) & brain fog & sometimes finding it hard to communicate because it 'hurts'. After a few days of eating fibre rich foods, loads of fresh fruit etc, plenty of water, green tea - I did not have a bowel movement & then after a few days had severe constipation.

I had fish (in breadcrumbs) & homemade chips at a friends - instantly after I ate that I felt sick - achey joints, headache, totally worn out, nausea, never felt so bad - but slept it off & next day I was ok.

Then I cut out dairy, eggs & gluten & did not have any constipation for nearly a week, woohoo.

However now I am not sure what might be the problem, does gluten intolerance symptoms differ from say dairy?

Because I decided to reintroduce a couple of things & I feel I am really *over-reacting* compared to what I was 2 weeks ago. Is this normal?

The other day I had some natural yoghurt, then the next afternoon had really bad bloating & nausea but then felt ok, would it take that long for symptoms to surface or is it supposed to be instant?

I had some fish, in breadcrumbs as a test ... next day i felt ok, went out for dinner at a friends, no obvious gluten except maybe something in the gravy, came home bit queasy & crampy in the stomach but nothing terrible - did eat some apples & seeds but just felt ick. Next day horrid headache, queasy & literally slept all day, felt like i had flu, couldn't move, didn't want to do anything, couldn't face people, felt upset for no reason, pain in wrists & ankles. Next day back on my feet, feeling ok *shrugs*

I have been told I have leaky gut. I think i may get checked to see if i have any intolerances.

I also have psoriasis, which is like eczema - so I guess thats all wrapped up in it.

Sorry to waffle on, I would appreciate any thoughts, if you have any :) Thank you.

I know there have been times I have felt good like on holiday where my diet changed & I could just get out of bed like a normal person ... maybe I want to be gluten-intolerant because I don't want to be a loser on purpose *curls up in a ball* :(

Well you sound to have some of the common GI problems. Lactose intolerance can cause gas, the big D and C, and bloating, pain discomfort, less ice cream enjoyment etc... So it could just be that, or since lactose intolerance often goes with celiac, it could be that also, or both. Psoriasis seems to be somewhat common with celiac as well. And of course people get dermatitis herpetiformis with celiac too.

So did a doc suggest leaky gut? Oh waffling on is fine, and being sick doesn't make you a loser. That reminds me, I have a Green's Endeavor gluten-free beer in the cooler... That say they are really durn good.

Welcome to the board, we have had several UK people around lately. Wave!

Looking for help sourcing gluten-free products that do not contain potato or corn derived ingredients. I have other autoimmune conditions (Psoriatic Arthritis and Sjogrens) so I’m looking for prepared foods as I have fatigue and cannot devote a lot of time to baking my own treats.

I am so sorry you're going through this. It's completely understandable to feel frustrated, stressed, and disregarded after such a long and difficult health journey. It's exhausting to constantly advocate for yourself, especially when you're dealing with so many symptoms and positive diagnoses like SIBO, while still feeling unwell. The fact that you have been diligently following the diet without relief is a clear sign that something else is going on, and your doctors should be investigating other causes or complications, not dismissing your very real suffering.

It is just so sad that health care in the United States has come to this.  Health insurance should be available to everyone, not just the healthy or the rich.  My heart goes out to you.  I would not hesitate to have the test and pay for it myself.  My big concern would be how you could keep the results truly private.  I am sure that ultimately, you could not.  A.I. is getting more and more pervasive, and all data is available somewhere.  I don't know if you could give a fake name, or pay for your test with cash.  I certainly would not disclose any positive results on a private insurance application.  As I understand it, for an official diagnosis, an MD needs to review your labs and make the call.  If you end up in the ER, or some other situation, just request a gluten free diet, and say it is because you feel better when you don't eat gluten.      Hang in there, though.  Medicare is not that far away for you, and it will remove a lot of stress from your health care concerns.  You will even be able to "come out of the closet" about being Celiac!

Yes, I've posted a few times about two companies: Request a Test and Ulta Labs. Also, pretty much we can all request any test we want (with the possible exception of the N protein Covid test and I'm sure a couple of others) with Lab Corp (or Pixel by Lab Corp) and Quest. I much prefer Lab Corp for their professionalism, ease of service and having it together administratively, at least in DC. And just so you know, Request a Test uses Lab Corp and Quest anyway, while Ulta Labs uses only Quest. Ulta Labs is cheaper than Request a Test, but I am tired of dealing with Quest, so I don't use them so much.

PS - I think you meant this site, but I don't believe it has been updated in years: http://glutenfreedrugs.com/ so it is best to use: You can search this site for prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance" and click it, and then look at "Inactive Ingredients," as any gluten ingredients would likely appear there, rather than in the Active Ingredients area. https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/
