Centrum Vitamin Giving Me Trouble?

Lisa Ann

I took a centrum vitamin today and I am very bloated and gassy this evening. I was recently diagnosed and haven't met with my dr. again to discuss vitamin/mineral therapy. I think I will wait until my appt. to see what she says (May 9th). Has anyone else had this problem. I'm wondering if it will be like that in the beginning?

As always, I'm looking forward to your input.

I read Centrum as being ok and Centrum Silver is what I take. I was taking a baby aspirin as well every day and found that to be the culprit as it is buffered with flour. Switched aspirin to Bayers. See https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodid=285

for centrum listing, Junior was listed as possibly containing gluten.

Hi Lisa Ann,

sorry, but I didn't see your post until today. I recently spoke with the people at Centrum to find out about their vitamins. Since I have trouble swallowing pills, I wanted to use one of their chewable formulas. They told me that all of their vitamins are gluten-free EXCEPT Centrum Silver Chewables. It is a new product, and at this time, they have not determined its status as far as to whether it contains gluten or is gluten-free. Hope this helps.

Paula :)

Thanks for the info Paula on chewable Centrum Silver. Just goes to show you that you can't be too careful of each and every product. And maybe that we can trust out 'gut reaction' to products.

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
