I'm Confused About The Symptoms...

If you have some of the symptoms but tested negative for the endomysial antibodies (which are supposed to be specific to celiac disease)could it still be celiac or not?

If you some of the symptoms but a negative for endomysial antibodies (which are supposed to be specific for celiac), then could you still have celiac. I could be wrong, but I think I've also been gluten free about 1 week and 2 days before my test (even though I couldn't totally confirm that I was 100% gluten free but for 4 days straight, I was feeling better).

I really wish I had told that last piece of info to my doctor.

Even on a full gluten diet up to 20% of us will be negative on blood testing. Unfortunately I know this all to well. I am one of those 20% and until I was finally diagnosed I didn't even know what celiac was other than the doctors said I was negative for celiac sprue. A couple even were surprised because I was so clearly celiac by symptoms. They tested over and over with the same negative results. That delayed my diagnosis for many painful years.

So in answer to your question yes you can still have celiac and have negative blood tests. Go with what your body is telling you.

      Scott I also have different symptoms than most people. It affects me bad. Stomach ache, headache, nauseous, heart racing, whole body shaking, can't walk then my throat starts to close. It attacks my nervous system. The only thing that saves me is a 1/2 of Xanax...it calms down my nervous system

      Scott Adams. I was dealing with a DR that didn't care about me being celiac. I repeatedly told him that I was celiac and is everything gluten-free. He put an acrylic lens from j&j. I called the company to ask about gluten and was told yes that the acrylic they use has gluten....then they back tracked immediately and stopped talking to me. The Dr didn't care that I was having issues. It took me 6 months and a lot of sickness to get it removed.... which can only happen within 6 months. The Dr that took it out said that it was fused and that's why I lost vision. If they would have removed it right away everything would be fine. He put in a silicone one that was gluten-free and I've had no issues at all in the other eye. Do not do acrylic!

      Welcome @Martha Mitchell, I too would like to know more about your prior lenses, and especially about the potential of gluten in lenses. In theory this should not harm most celiacs, as the autoimmune reaction normally begins in the gut, however, in those who are super sensitive or have dermatitis herpetiformis it may be a potential issue.

      It's most likely going to be a celiac disease diagnosis based on your blood test results, but wait for your doctor to give you a green light for going gluten-free, as they may want to do additional testing. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
