Shaving Lotions

After reading about risks associated with ingestion of products like soap after washing I was wondering whether shaving ootions had been looked at here. I am fairly new and this might have occurred long ago. Anyhow, for what it's worth, I think that gluten in shaving lotions would be pretty troublesome on account of the possibility of cutting, chafing or weakening the skin surface through shaving.

I use Edge, made by SCJohnson. I contacted their site, found the safety sheet. It dealt with safety, mostly concerned with how the material is packaged or how to deal with problems if you get it in your eye. Fair enough. But there was nothing there to say whetherer or not gluten was used in fragrances, colorings or maybe to control viscosity.

Does anyone here know? Thanks.

Andrew

All of Colgate shaving creams are gluten free

I know alot of the Skintimate shaving gels(made by the same company as Edge) for women are gluten free but do not know about the Edge products.

However I just contacted them about them and should be getting a response fairly soon. I will post it when I receive it.

Until then there may be someone on here that may know about Edge products

Sice my initial contact this morning with the SCJohnson corporation they have indicated they are investigating the particular aspects of my concers "Thank you for your recent email. Due to the nature of your concerns, I have forwarded your email to our Product Safety Group for their response. Someone should be responding to you shortly."

I'll let you know when I get hear from them.

That's the same response I got...

Just got a real response:

All SC Johnson products are extensively evaluated for toxicity and safety. We are a family owned company that takes pride in producing the best products at the best value for our consumers. Celiac Disease is a lifelong digestive disorder found in individuals who are genetically susceptible. Damage to the mucosal surface of the intestine is caused by an immunologically toxic reaction to the ingestion of gluten.

Yes, KaitiUSA! I got the same response. It was prompt, I am glad to say. And I've found their products good, which I why I use Edge. But, it would seem that this is another product for celiacs to be careful about.

I am glad I brought up the issue here. Cuts, as occur with shaving, would seem to be a likely cause for gluten entry into the body.

I am doubly glad about checking on EDGE shaving lotion. On going carefully over my records I did nick myself on the day that began this bout with stomach upsets. Instead of ascribing the cause to Coffee Mate, as I had done on the basis that it does affect a few people, I am now believing that the more likely cause was the EDGE saving material etering the bloodstream through the small facial cut. No, it's not a proof but it does seem to ad up. I do not nick myself very often while shaving.

Eating out in general is full of risks, but this article may help:

This kind of question is always difficult to give a definitive answer to because of so many variables. One such variable is the sensitivity of the individual celiac to small amounts of gluten cross contamination. An amount that causes a reaction in one celiac many not in another, or at least not be discernable which, of course, does not exactly equate to being "safe".

I don't live in the US, but based on this thread, I wouldn't risk it:   https://www.reddit.com/r/glutenfree/comments/1n2ehw8/cracker_barrel/   This app is helpful: https://www.findmeglutenfree.com/

I see that Cracker Barrel restaurants have a gluten free menu (not all locations, but one confirmed that they do). I was wondering if it is safe for my 5 year old son with celiac disease?
