Annie's Naturals Bbq Sauces

I was very disappointed to discover today that Annie's Naturals BBQ Sauces, Smokey Maple and Original are NO LONGER GLUTEN FREE... I called the 800 # and got a girl on the phone that really didn't seem to care that I was upset about this. If this bothers you at all, please visit their website and e-mail them. I still have half a bottle of the Smokey Maple that is gluten free, but when it runs out, I'm OUT of it. This is so sad because this has been my favorite gluten-free BBQ sauce.

Omigod. I just bought some today and didn't even notice!

How could they do this to us????

Now what will I use???

debbie-doodles Contributor

aren't there other brands of bbq sauce that are gluten free? Is this brand just really good? I will call and complain for you, hahah, but I've never tried it. That's terrible that it contains gluten now. :(

this had been my favorite brand. :( Now I am a very sad puppy. I am now back on the search for a BBQ sauce that I really like. Kraft is just OK, I just LOVED the Annie's ones. Poo. I did send an e-mail to the company. I hope that other people do as well.

What a disappointment. You can e-mail them about this right here:

I hope a lot of us do contact them and let them know what a bummer this is.

ok, I got an e-mail back from the same lady that I spoke to on the phone, and for some reason my copy and paste function isn't working, but basically she apologized for steering me wrong and said that it is only the NEW ORGANIC BBQ sauces that are not gluten free, that the existing Original and Honey Maple still are, however my local store may not be carrying the original any more... She said if I have any problems finding the gluten free versions at my local stores that I can order them directly through the company.

I'm still upset that somebody feels that their Organic BBQ sauce is better by including gluten, but IF her latest info is correct and the existing original flavors (not the organic) are still gluten free, then we may be ok! I'm so confused!

I've e-mailed her back and am waiting on a response, but I checked the website again, and they DO NOT have the existing gluten free versions of the BBQ sauces listed at all. So I'm wondering if they ARE doing away with the gluten free versions after all and she just hadn't been informed of that. This is frustrating. In a previous life I wouldn't have spent so much time and energy on a BBQ SAUCE!!!!

I just bought both the original and smokey maple Annie's BBQ sauce at our local health food store. They were actually having a sale on it so I stocked up for the summer BBQ season. Both bottles are clearly marked Gluten Free.......

I've got two more stores I am going to check out tomorrow to see if I can find the bottles that are labeled gluten free... ;)

Hi all I’ve been celiac for 4 years now, I’ve done pretty well to avoid it thus far. Last night I took the wrong pizza out of the freezer and ate the whole lot!! The non gluten and gluten pizza boxes are both very similar.   2 hours later I was throwing up violently on my hands and knees over the loo.  .horrendous stomach pains,  My hair was wet from sweat every part of my body was wet. What an awful experience, just had a bad headache today  fortunately.    Is their any products/pills anyone takes if they have realised they have just been glutened to make the symptoms a little less worse.  thanks

Yes, do take your B Complex with Benfotiamine or Thiamax.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins in the B Complex to make energy and enzymes, so best to take them together earlier in your day.  Taking them too close to bedtime can keep you too energetic to go to sleep.   The Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine is Benfotiamine and Thiamine Hydrochloride, another form of thiamine the body likes.  The Thiamine HCl just helps the Benfotiamine work better.   Read the label for how many milligrams are in them.  The Mega Benfotiamine is 250 mgs.  Another Benfothiamine has 100 mgs.  You might want to start with the 100 mg.    I like to take Thiamax in the morning with a B Complex at breakfast.  I take the Benfotiamine with another meal.  You can take your multivitamin with Benfotiamine at lunch.   Add a magnesium supplement, too.  Thiamine needs magnesium to make some important enzymes.  Life Extension makes Neuro-Mag, Magnesium Threonate, which is really beneficial.  (Don't take Magnesium Oxide.  It's not absorbed well, instead it pulls water into the digestive tract and is used to relieve constipation.)  I'm not a big fan of multivitamins because they don't always dissolve well in our intestines, and give people a false sense of security.  (There's videos on how to test how well your multivitamin dissolves.).  Multivitamins don't prevent deficiencies and aren't strong enough to correct deficiencies.   I'm happy you are trying Thiamax and Benfotiamine!  Keep us posted on your progress!  I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

I looked further into Thiamax Vitamin B1 by objective nutrients and read all the great reviews. I think I will give this a try. I noticed only possible side affect is possibly the first week so body adjusts. Life Extensions carries Benfotiamine with Thiamine and the mega one you mentioned. Not sure if both in one is better or seperate. some reviews state a laxative affect as side affect. SHould I take with my super B complex or just these 2 and multivitamin? I will do further research but I appreciate the wonderful explanation you provided on Thiamine.

There are other Celiac genes. HLA DQ 2 and HLA DQ 8 show up in people from Northern European descent.   People of Mediterranean descent have HLA DQ 7.  People of Asian descent have HLA DQ 9.   There's other Indigenous populations that have other HLA genes that code for Celiac disease.   Are you still having symptoms?   What do you include in your diet?  Are you vegetarian? Are you taking any prescription medication?  Omeprazole?  Metformin?   Do you have anemia?  Thyroid problems? Are you taking any vitamins or herbal supplements?
