Reaction To Fasting Today....

So tomorrow is the dreaded colonoscopy (well, I'm not dreading the actual procedure as much as the prep.... gag) -- anyway, I'm supposed to have a "clear diet" for today. Well, I ran to the grocery store on the way to work this morning to buy some lemon jello, the kind already made up in the containers. Wouldn't you know, they had only grape and cherry, and my instructions said specifically "nothing red or purple"... sigh... -- So I had to come to work and have nothing to eat except for unsweetened tea. I did have coffee this morning (with some contraband milk and sugar, but it was 5:00 a.m., so I'm not telling.. ;) ) so no headache. In fact I feel fine, just somewhat hungry. But the point is.... I feel fine! Clearly there has been something over the past few days that's been making me feel not fine. Nothing like the awful symptoms before diagnosis when I was eating a lot of bread, cereal, etc. But I've had the intestinal rumbling and all the other TMI symptoms. But today -- none of that! I didn't even really notice until I realized I'd only been in the bathroom because of the water I'm drinking.

Now, I'm not recommending fasting at all, although I know people do it for religious or health reasons. But, now that I suddenly feel 100% I'm determined to keep a strict food diary after I have the test done, and try to find out what I've been doing wrong. After reading these boards I'm suspecting maybe the milk, since I had a Frosty last night and was miserable throughout my entire class at church.

So anyway.... yay for fasting! lol...

I totally agree! That's how I started figuring some of my stuff out. I was so sick I thought I must have a stomach flu or food poisoning, stopped eating solids for about a day and felt better, then felt terrible again as soon as I ate.

Finally helped me realize that the food was making me sick!

I had the colonoscopy recently, and I won't lie, the prep is nasty, but the procedure was fine as they had some really good drugs! I had a slightly different experience, felt awful during the clear diet before, but felt amazing afterwards.

The day after the procedure I sat down to breakfast and realised that I had a nice hungry stomach (which I don't usually get), and no other sensation through my entire gut. I was so used to bloating and pain that I stopped paying attention to it, but it was so nice to be without. The pain came back the next day, and my crushing brain fog hit in a day later.

It was great to realise that I had such a strong and quick reaction to whatever food was messing me up. They found nothing to explain my symptoms during the scopes, but the experience after the procedures encouraged me to give an elimination diet another go.

I am back on to an elimination diet that has given me a couple of good days so far, so at least the scopes helped me get to there!

I strongly recommend 2 dedicated gluten free (gluten-free) restaurants in my area (East Bay of San Francisco Bay Area) (2025) -- Life is Sweet Bakery and Café in Danville. I've been a few times with friends and tried multiple entrees and salads. All very good and worth having again. I've also tried a number of their bakery goods. All extremely good (not just "good for gluten-free"). https://lifeissweetbakeryandcafe.com/ -- Kitara Kitchen in Albany (they have additional locations). I've been once and had the "Buritto Bowl". Six individual items plus a sauce. Outstanding. Not just "for gluten-free", but outstanding in its own right. Vibrant flavors, great textures. I can't wait to go back. https://www.kitava.com/location/kitava-albany/

I'm 67 and have been celiac for 17yrs. I had cataract surgery and they put a gluten lens in my eye. Through a lot of research, I found out about MMA acrylic...it contains gluten. It took 6 months for me to find a DR that would remove it and replace it with a gluten-free lens . I have lost some vision in that eye because of it . I also go to a prosthodontist instead of a regular dentist because they are specialized. He has made me a night guard and a few retainers with no issues... where my regular dentist didn't care. I have really bad reactions to gluten and I'm extremely sensitive, even to CC. I have done so much research on gluten-free issues because of these Drs that just don't care. Gluten is in almost everything shampoo, lotion, food, spices, acrylic, medication even communion wafers! All of my Drs know and believe me I remind them often.... welcome to my world!

If this applies geographically, in the U.K., physicians will often declare a diagnosis of celiac disease based on the TTG-IGA antibody blood test alone if the score is 10x normal or greater, which your score is. There is very little chance the endoscopy/biopsy will contradict the antibody blood test.

TTG IgA reference range 0.0 to 14.9 KU/L

What was the reference range for that test? Each lab uses different reference ranges so a raw score like that makes it difficult to comment on. But it looks like a rather large number.
