I use to take Celexa for a mild case of Depression and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. However, a couple of years ago my insurance won't cover Celexa anymore. Hence, I went off the meds.

I would like to go to my Doctor with a name of a gluten-free medicine. So, if anyone knows a nice Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitor let me know!! LOL

Celexa is gluten-free as long as you buy the brand name which is made by Forest Pharm. They have a policy not to use gluten in any of their meds. They also make Lexapro (the newer version of Celexa). i'm on Celexa and have no problems with it. Good news, B

I will look into the Lexapro but I think it might not be covered as its predecessor. I'm also gonna look into xanax and zoloft.

I take adavan, it is gluten free. but it is an anxiety med not a antidepressive.

HMMM...Now your giving me a new direction to look into...maybe I should look into some anti anxiety med instead of a anti depressant. (I didnt know there was a difference) When I go to my doctor I will explore that option with him...

Where did you find gluten free Ativan? Mine had gluten in it. Waaa! I take klonopin (the generic I take is clonazepam) for anxiety in adiition to the Celexa and some of the brands are gluten free. Mine is from Teva pharm. It works incredibly well. It has helped me so much! B

Well it's not the name brand. I guess that I really don't know if it's gluten free. My Dr. knows that I can't have gluten so he doesn't put me on anythind that I can't take. But now I am going to look into it more.

Yours might be fine. I just know that my particular generic version wasn't. I threw away the bottle and i wish I hadn't because now i don't know who made it. I'm sure some of the generics are. Let me know what you find out. Thanks, Beverly

Thanks- I'll see what i can find out too. I only used it occasionally but it was nice to have if I needed it! Going gluten-free has significantly redduced my anxiety. Yippee! Beverly

Found it- if it's manufactured by Sandoz it's gluten-free. I'll have to see if anyone gets it from them in my area. B

Do a search on several of the name brand meds, then do a search on the generic name to see which companies mfr them. Call those companies so that you have your ducks in a row. This is the way my docs often pursue them with us.

Your pharmacist may be able to do like mine does and provide you with a list of mfrs for each generic and their phone numbers. We go through this with every new med. I call him and ask for the list, he prints it off for me, and I pick it up and make the calls. If he is not too busy, he will make the calls, but I do not ask for that unless I already have the rx in hand.

Great topic! New medicine- is anyone on Effexsor? (not sure about the spelling). I had to quit taking zoloft because of the side effects. I am happy on this, but I haven't checked if it was gluten free or not.

Sonjaf, I have not checked myself but I read on the Delphi forum that Effexor is gluten-free.

      Yes, do take your B Complex with Benfotiamine or Thiamax. Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins in the B Complex to make energy and enzymes, so best to take them together earlier in your day.       I looked further into Thiamax Vitamin B1 by objective nutrients and read all the great reviews. I think I will give this a try. I noticed only possible side affect is possibly the first week so body adjusts. Life Extensions carries Benfotiamine with Thiamine and the mega one you mentioned. Not sure if both in one is better or seperate. some reviews state...

      There are other Celiac genes. HLA DQ 2 and HLA DQ 8 show up in people from Northern European descent. People of Mediterranean descent have HLA DQ 7. People of Asian descent have HLA DQ 9. What an awful experience, just had a bad headache today  fortunately.    Is their any products/pills anyone takes if they have realised they have just been glutened to make the symptoms a little less worse.  thanks

      Yes, do take your B Complex with Benfotiamine or Thiamax.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins in the B Complex to make energy and enzymes, so best to take them together earlier in your day.  Taking them too close to bedtime can keep you too energetic to go to sleep.   The Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine is Benfotiamine and Thiamine Hydrochloride, another form of thiamine the body likes.  The Thiamine HCl just helps the Benfotiamine work better.   Read the label for how many milligrams are in them.  The Mega Benfotiamine is 250 mgs.  Another Benfothiamine has 100 mgs.  You might want to start with the 100 mg.    I like to take Thiamax in the morning with a B Complex at breakfast.  I take the Benfotiamine with another meal.  You can take your multivitamin with Benfotiamine at lunch.   Add a magnesium supplement, too.  Thiamine needs magnesium to make some important enzymes.  Life Extension makes Neuro-Mag, Magnesium Threonate, which is really beneficial.  (Don't take Magnesium Oxide.  It's not absorbed well, instead it pulls water into the digestive tract and is used to relieve constipation.)  I'm not a big fan of multivitamins because they don't always dissolve well in our intestines, and give people a false sense of security.  (There's videos on how to test how well your multivitamin dissolves.).  Multivitamins don't prevent deficiencies and aren't strong enough to correct deficiencies.   I'm happy you are trying Thiamax and Benfotiamine!  Keep us posted on your progress!  I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

I will do further research but I appreciate the wonderful explanation you provided on Thiamine.

Are you taking any prescription medication?  Omeprazole?  Metformin?   Do you have anemia?  Thyroid problems? Are you taking any vitamins or herbal supplements?
