Gf Restaurants In Santa Barbara, Lake Tahoe....

Hi everyone! I'm travelling to Mammoth Lake, Napa Valley, Lake Tahoe, Santa Barbara and all along the coast of mid-California in a couple of weeks. I found a wonderful listing of restaurants in a number of cities on my journey. But I just can't seem to find any for these above regions. Any suggestions? I really appreciate it! :)

Take care,

Kristy

There's a sushi place in Mammoth, near the theater, that has gluten-free sushi. I ate there with no problems.

Thanks so much Tiffany! Did they have gluten-free California rolls, please tell me they did...Do you know if their miso was safe?

tarnalberry Community Regular

the california rolls are made with fake crab (so, not safe) but they have a very interesting vegetable roll that's good. (and the plain shrimp nagiri is fine too, of course.)

I didn't check on the miso, but I'm sure you can ask without worrying about a language problem.

I'm sorry I don't remember the name of the place, but it'll be obvious if you look in any of the local guides or phone book (it's not a big place).

Thanks again Tiffany! I'll definitely try it out :D

I'm planning a trip to Lake Tahoe also and have been looking for places we can eat. In the latest issue of Sully's Living Without magazine it has a list of restaurants that are "allergy friendly". It has a listing for Freshies Restaurant in South lake Tahoe. The Phone # is 530-542-3630 and it recommends calling them ahead of time to discuss your issues, but it might be an option.

Sorry, we picniced when we went to Santa Barbara, so finding safe food wasn't an issue then...and we haven't been to the other places since being gluten-free...so I can't help you there.

God bless,

Mariann

Thanks Mariann! I'll give them a call. I'll let you know if it works out. :)

Hello, I was very stick,  with flu like symptoms, but my virus panel came back negative and we couldn’t figure out what’s going on. The doctor then added a celiac panel.  Has anyone ever had such a dramatic change?  What are the odds this is true celiac I am going to have an endoscopy, but it’s expensive and I just feel like why can’t the labs be enough?

Eating out in general is full of risks, but this article may help:

This kind of question is always difficult to give a definitive answer to because of so many variables. One such variable is the sensitivity of the individual celiac to small amounts of gluten cross contamination. An amount that causes a reaction in one celiac many not in another, or at least not be discernable which, of course, does not exactly equate to being "safe".

I don't live in the US, but based on this thread, I wouldn't risk it:   https://www.reddit.com/r/glutenfree/comments/1n2ehw8/cracker_barrel/   This app is helpful: https://www.findmeglutenfree.com/

I see that Cracker Barrel restaurants have a gluten free menu (not all locations, but one confirmed that they do). I was wondering if it is safe for my 5 year old son with celiac disease?
