Hi There, just got my 8 y/o daughter blood tested...They said the tests were negative, but it appears she has an IgA deficiancy, which I've never heard of, but apparently can make the celiac tests give a false negative...anyone else have this problem or know anything about it??

Iga Deficiency can be common in Celiacs. if your daughter is Low or Deficient in Iga- then her Tissue Transglutamse Iga and Antigliadin Iga could be false negative. because if she is not making adequate Iga, then all her Iga will be LOWER than what they would be

make sense??

im Iga Deficient.. and my TTG result was a "weak positive". if i had normal Iga- then it's possible my TTG would have been a higher number (a more solid positive)

did your daughter get NEGATIVES or WEAK POSITIVES?

she could also get the TTG & Antigliadin tests but in the IGG form instead.

are they wanting to do a biopsy?? does she improve on a gluten free diet??

Ummm...They didn't say if it was negatives or weak positives? She doesn't have a ton of symptoms, she just seems to spend some extra time in the bathroom :) Me not really knowing whats normal and what isn't, sort of panicked, and wanted to have her tested before I keep loading her up on regular breads and pastas...She does seem to have a bit of stomach pain which I don't think is normal as often as she has it? She is going to a gi doctor next month so I guess we'll see what they want to do! Thanks for responding :)

you should get a copy of her results for yourself. then study them so u understand what they mean.. docs often barely give it a glance.. they totally missed key parts to my results- after i pointed them out to my Gi 2 years later- he was like.. "Ohhhhh ya- looks like u r Iga deficient.... and Positive on the Endomysial Antibody.... hmmmm interesting.." <_<

if you feel comfortable- u could post the results here- we can dissect them for u.

so, basically, the Iga deficiency could give her a false negative on the celiac tests... OR.. she may not be a celiac- and the Iga deficiency could be making her more vulnerable to gut bacterial infections or parasites..

Low IgA is associated with celiac and will cause false negatives on IgA tests. It's supposedly not a big deal as far as general health. Your daughter should get the IgG version of the celiac panel.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
