Any Good Doctors Near Richmond, Va?

I've been trying to manage things on my own for a while, but sometimes I feel like giving doctors another try. I felt great and the intestinal problems stopped when I first went gluten-free 6 years ago, but symptoms returned after 2years. Can't seem to get the problem figured out on my own. Has anyone had success with a similar problem with help from a good doctor in my area? I don't mind traveling a bit. I know the University of Maryland has a good clinic. My insurance is for in state.

Gosh I hope you see this...I know it has been a few weeks since your post. I live in the Fredericksburg area and have found a Doc that I think is fabulous in Stafford if you don't mind driving! Mind you I've only been seeing him for a month or so, but I really appreciate that he welcomes (and expects even) the patient to be informed and do research. He is the doc that after 10+ years of no one being able to find anything "wrong" with me immediately honed in on food being my problem. He is a Family Practitioner, but specializes in hormone imbalances and allergies. He listens (both appts. I've had w/ him so far have been about 30-50 minutes with him talking to me and educating me in the exam room, and I always leave with a book that he would like me to read (which I appreciate). He also is very great at email communication, and expects that you email him (and he will email you to check on you). He wrote a book (self-published) that he gave me on my first visit, and the end was very revealing to me....his thought is that if your doctor does not immediately know and picture who you are when hearing your name, or upon getting a call from you then you don't see your doctor enough! This guy, imho, is very different than any other doc I've ever seen, and although not for everyone I'm sure, is exactly what I expect when I see a doc rather than the more clinical, quick in and out without really listening to you kind of doc that seems to be so common now days. If this guy interests you send me a PM or email, and I'll forward the info on. I should add that although he has run the Celiac (along with other) blood panels, he has referred me to a GI doc to have an endo done to look for Celiac along with a few other things that could be my issue.

I hope you figure it out soon! Hugs!

Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

That sounds so very likely in my case! I will absolutely ask my doctor on my next bone check coming up in March... Thanks a lot!

Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!

Hello good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has ever brought their anti-allergy pills? I have been wanting to use their Cetirizine HCI 10mg. They are called HealthA2Z and distributed by Allegiant Health.I’m also Asthmatic and these allergies are terrible for me but I also want to be sure they don’t have any sort of gluten compound.    I have tried calling them but to no avail. Has anyone ever used them? If so, did you had any problems or no problems at all?    thank you
