How Long Until Improvement?

My daughter is 17 months old and was diagnosed 7 days ago. We have her on a gluten free diet but really have not seen much improvement. She seems to be really gassy and uncomfortable at times? How long until her tummy settles and she satrts to enjoy eating again? Does it really get easier on the parents? I feel like I am being consumed with a new fear that gluten is out to get her. Is pediasure gluten free?

You can't really expect improvement so quick. It took me about 3 months to even really see a difference and then I was normal by about the 8th month. Everyone varies on the time it takes for symptoms to go away.

It will get easier but you have to give it alot of time.

Remember you are also in learning stages of the gluten free diet so there will be accidents most likely until you learn what gluten can be hidden under, etc. I mean gluten products that you use that have any chance of getting into the mouth need to be checked too.

Pediasure is gluten free.

Children usually respond more quickly to the diet than adults, but it may take several weeks or even months to see a major improvement. Some of my daughter's symptoms subsided within 2 weeks, but she continued to have a bloated belly for months. I guess each person responds differently.

Another thought: have you tried eliminating dairy, too? Often newly diagnosed children have a temporary intolerance to dairy products due to malabsorption. As the gut heals, they can often tolerate dairy again.

I can tell you what happened with us. My son was iagnosed at 19 months. Within 1 week he simply wasn't crying all the time. At 2 weeks he was acting happy again. At one month he finally had a reasonable appetite. Now, at 2 months gluten-free, he is back to his old nickname "food man". If he's awake, he's eating. He is back at his chart before all this started (around 13-15 months) on weight which was only 25th percentile anyway (maybe it will go up now?!), but the height hasn't really moved yet. That takes longer.

It is hard...but keep with it and it WILL make a difference and your daughter will be happy again.

      Yes, some people do get withdrawal from gluten but gluten withdrawal doesn't usually cause gut pain. Maybe more like general body aches and discomfort. We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic.       Ibuprofen

      Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce. Something is making my pain so much worse I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs. Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever...

In other words, she accused me of lying and committing fraud... over $50! Please be careful with your orders and purchases here.

We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic. This can damage the stomach lining if you eat it too often. Especially if your stomach lining is already compromised. Ibuprofen inhibits the body's ability to rebuild the stomach's protective mucosal lining. That's why it can cause peptic ulcers. As strange as it may sound, low level irritation/inflammation stimulates the body to rebuild the stomach lining. There are two steps in this rebuilding process known as COX 1 and COX 2. Ibuprofen represses both COX 1 and COX 2. Celecoxcib, a prescription anti inflammatory, inhibits only COX 2, making it less likely to cause damage to the gut lining.

I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding
