Hello,

My doctor just finished testing me and got my results via e-mail. I can not go back to him before 6 weeks for work reasons and I would like to know what these results mean:

IgA - 283.00 mg/dl

CELIAC SCREEN - 42.2 U/ml (Includes TTG and DGP)

Transglutaminase_IgA - 7.50 EU/ml (IgA isotype of TTG)

ENDOMYSIAL Ab - NEGATIVE

Vitamin D - 31.4 nmol/L

Vitamin B-12 - 482 pmol/L

Thanks.

We can't interpret any labs without the normal ranges. That looks like a normal total IgA, but if that's the case all it says is that your celiac panel would be valid.

Hello,

Thanks for responding so fast. The results plus the lab normal ranges are as follow:

IgA - 283.00 mg/dl (NORMAL IS 70 TO 500)

CELIAC SCREEN - 42.2 U/ml (Includes TTG and DGP) (NORMAL IS 0 TO 40)

Transglutaminase_IgA - 7.50 EU/ml (IgA isotype of TTG) (NORMAL IS 0 TO 20)

ENDOMYSIAL Ab - NEGATIVE (IgG+IgA iso. of endomys)

Vitamin D - 31.4 nmol/L (NORMAL IS 75 TO 250)

Vitamin B-12 - 482 pmol/L (NORMAL IS 156 TO 672)

Thanks.

Ah, that makes more sense.

You have a low positive on the celiac screen, but the other two major celiac tests (TTG and endomysial) are negative. The DGP test in the celiac screen is the most sensitive of the three tests by far, so it is reasonably common to be celiac with a positive result on only that one test. It means you have antibodies to DGP (deamidated gliadin peptide). DGP is only produced in your intestine if you either have celiac disease or are on the way to developing it. If I had your panel, I would ask my doctor for a referral to a GI for a biopsy to see what's going on. You need to keep eating gluten in order to get an accurate biopsy.

Your vitamin D is low, which isn't unusual. You can email your doctor right now and ask how much D3 he recommends. Mine was at 28 and they started me on 2,000 IU a day. You can start taking the vitamin D right away. The little liquid capsules are supposed to be better than dry pills.

Once the biopsy is over, if I were you I would go gluten-free. It's possible to have a false positive lab test but even if the biopsy doesn't turn up anything I would find the DGP worrisome as far as continuing to eat gluten.

Thank you very much for your help. I will follow your advise.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
