Hi Everyone,

I have been doing the gluten free diet for a week now and have some questions, maybe you can help me! I had blood work done and it showed my antibioties were highly elevated so my doctor is sure I have celiac disease. He wants to do an endoscopy but I have to wait until January because of insurance since I don't have the money to pay for it and the surgical center wants the money up front. So I started the diet and have been doing good on it, would you go ahead and get the endoscopy? I would have to go off the diet for a few weeks to get accurate results.

Also, I must have ate something that wasn't gluten free even tho it was on a list I was using because I had stomach pains and diarrhea last night and this morning. I had something strange happen earlier today. I had my lunch and went to sit down and hit my elbow on my laptop and caught it on the funny bone. It hurt really bad and I felt tingly all over and slumped over on the couch. I blacked out and when I opened my eyes, I couldn't remember where I was or how I got in a laying down position and my lunch was on the floor. My son was there and kneeling in front of me and I asked him what happened. He said that I fell over and was jerking for a few seconds. Sounds like maybe a seizure? Is that common to have happen with celiac disease or has anyone experienced this before? I didn't go to the doctor and I'm 45 years old and just finding out about this disease. Any input would be great!

thanks,

Carolann

I'll address the 2 main things here.

Seizure- this is not normal! This can be dangerous. You need to get to a doctor right away. What if you had been driving? Seizures are serious and not a normal result of a gluten-free diet.

Going gluten-free for months & then have an endoscopy is not a good idea. You need to be eating gluten to get a positive result. If your antibodies are high, you have Celiac.

I think you need to get the seizures under control before you worry about anything else.

Yes I will get to the doctor about that. I have never had that happen before so I thought maybe it was a result of the diet or a symptom of celiac. I'm not sure what it was, whether it was a seizure or not but I will call my doctor tomorrow.

I will see the GI specialist in November so I will see what can be done about the endoscopy. Thanks for your help!

Your response on this matter is what I expect. You’ve had a similar episode years ago, but this one is lasting longer!

I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?
