Aversion To Gluten-Free Bread Since Pregnancy

Hello,

maybe someone experienced the same thing. Since I am pregnant, I can't stand one single of the gluten free breads offered on the market. I guess I just find yeast or eggs disgusting at the moment, or sugar where it doesn't belong to.

I admit I've always found gluten-free bread a difficult issue - back in Germany as well as here in Toronto. Sometimes I imagine the German pumpernickel style bread would work for me now, but who knows. You don

Omg I couldn't stand anything sweet the first trimester. I made biscuits and almost vomited at the first bite...they tasted sweet (1tbsp. sugar).

It passed....

The only think sweet I wanted (and craved) was apples.

Couldn't stand coffee, milk, bacon.... The only thing that stuck the full pregnancy was milk. Fat free was tolerable, but barely if it was ice cold.

I just avoided stuff I didn't like in the beginning. There's plenty of good stuff to replace it with.... I loved tortillas and frozen (fry them at home) lumpia. Now I'd have to make my own with rice paper but hey, preggo women will do ANYTHING to fix a craving!

Lumpia seems to be an excellent idea! (I didn't know this name till now, to be honest!)

Thank you!

Have fun making them. I'm horrible at rolling them.

I had very few food cravings when pregnant. Never to the point where I would have to run out and buy something. But once in a while I would eat something that I bought for my husband that I wouldn't normally eat. I did have aversions though.

Gluten isn't an issue for me but it is for my daughter. I do have medical problems that can leave me sick to my stomach though. We find that white rice works wonders. I make a pot of it every week and keep the leftovers in the fridge. I also keep some pre-cooked packets in the cupboard for a really quick meal. Daughter likes them mixed with canned chicken.

Daughter also likes gluten-free pretzels, rice cakes and occasionaly crackers.

      Thank you this really helped.

Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong.   yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.

One doctor suggested it, but then seemed irritated when I asked follow-up questions. Oh well—

@GlorietaKaro, your respiratory reactions to gluten make me wonder if there might also be an allergic (anaphylaxis) component at work here.

Thanks to both of you for your responses!  Sadly, even after several years of very strict gluten avoidance, I remember the symptoms well enough that I am too frightened to risk a gluten challenge— heartbeat and breathing problems are scary— Scott, thank you for the specific information— I will call around in the new year to see if I can find anyone. In the meantime, I will carry on has I have been— it’s working! Thanks also for the validation— sometimes I just feel crushed by disbelief. Not enough to make me eat gluten though—
