What a harrowing experience, yikes! Well, even though they were totally freaking out about getting blood work, it's nice to know you have healthy kids who have no idea what blood work is! Should be about 2 weeks now until I know the results. My 5 year old displays some symptoms, my 7 year old displays none. My sister and I both have Celiac, so part of me is prepared for at least one of them to be affected, although of course I am hoping both of them are fine. Their dad and I just split up over the summer, so I am sort of hoping my 5 year old's tummy aches might just be stress related and not Celiac. However, I just really need to know one way or the other, and so do they. They had both the anti-endomysial and the transglutimase (did I get that right??) done so we should have some pretty conclusive results. I sure hope they don't have to deal with this!

I think you were smart to do that. I have a 5, 3 and 1 year old and am contemplating having them tested soon. I was just diagnosed myself last week. NOne of them really have any classic symptoms....My doctor told me the ttg test is incredibly accurate.

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
