  1. Could he be allergic to something else in your diet that's getting through to him? I would go with your gut instinct though and if he still seems inconsolable and you feel it might be something more, try another doctor or two or three. My now 10 year old son was extremely collicky from birth to 4 months. The screaming and the not being able to fix it were...
  2. I've been on this site for about 4-6 hours per day every day for the last 2 weeks and have learned a TON! I am on my 3rd celiac book as well. I understand after hearing it over and over that we need to be meticulous about food preparation, colander, etc so as to not get even 1 gluten crumb into our gluten-free food, but I'm still not sure exactlly why...
  3. Hi Misty, Any mom sympathizes with someone going through this. I hope you get answers soon. Have the doctors expressed concern about the developmental delays or are you just worried based on what you're seeing? None of my 3 children EVER crawled, and they all walked at very different ages (13 months, 10 months, and my 3rd, not until 17 1/2 months). ...
  4. Thanks! Sorry, it's been rough for you guys...that sounds like more of the norm though for people with celiac unfortunately. It would help if there was more information about it made public...maybe Primetime will do a special on it one day or something and open up some people's eyes. Now that I know the signs, I have a couple nieces I suspect could have...
  5. Hi Ursula, I notice your name on practically every post I look at and you just seem so helpful to everyone. I also noticed you were diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, which my son seems to be showing possible signs of. Can I get any advice, thoughts, etc. from you regarding my son? He just recently turned 10 and has been having behavioral problems...
  6. Did any of you have problems in school because of this? I look back to high school and college... I got good grades overall, but sometimes I would re-read the same thing over and over and over again, and each time it seemed new....ask me any questions about it and I couldn't tell you the answers. I always spent so much more time on homework than my friends...
  7. The title says it all. I'd love to hear how everyone experiencing this feels to see if it sounds like me. I feel like a hypochondriac. I am not gluten-free (yet). This is still very new to me, but I am educating myself and will be trying the gluten-free diet. I have not been diagnosed celiac (haven't been tested yet), but my son had a positive blood...
  8. Every mom feels for another mom going through this...it's not fun....and what you'd do if you could just trade places with them! anyways, it sounds like a sinus infection or congestion to me. Even if she doesn't have nose drainage, it could be all blocked up causing the screaming adn more pain when she's lying down..as her whold head, ears, etc. would hurt...
  9. Yet another good idea...I could see how easy it would be for the celiac person or family to instinctively say "oh he can't have that" since they're so used to doing it, but I can also see how that could easily hurt the other person's feelings who went so far out of their way to do things right and it still wasn't ok. That's good to hear your perspective...
  10. Thank you so much. YOu sound like every celiac's perfect relative! I like the ally idea and would agree that this sounds like the way to go. People just seem so much more apt to listen when it's someone else telling them for some reason. I like the brochure idea, too..probably better than a book, which they may never find the time to read or suggesting...
  11. I've never had knee problems my entire life (almost 37 years), until a week or two ago. I notice that whenever my legs are bent (kneeling, sitting, etc.) and I stand up, the backs of both my knees feel very sprained, causing me to feel like they are going to collapse out from under me. I limp for a few steps and then the pain is completely gone. It happens...
  12. Yet another symptom...I never would've mentioned the lack of eye contact, as I always thought this was just his personality. He rarely, if ever, makes eye contact. I feel bad...I'm always scolding him and talking to him later about this being rude and that you look them in the eyes when you are taking to them or them to you. I just thought he was being...
  13. thank you, I thought I had tried them all, but hadn't heard of this one yet. Thanks!
  14. Thanks again so much! He's going to the doctor for his yearly check-up in 2 weeks, I'm going to bring these things up and see if my doctor can help. If not, I will find one that will. We obviously just want to make him feel as good about himself as possible, and for me, it's being able to understand what's going through his head, so I can better know how...
  15. Thanks Jessica!. You sound like me...tried a million products! Maybe I'll try Kerasal as I havent' tried this one yet. I haven't tried Zimm's Crack Cream (He-he-he ) either yet so maybe that'll be next. I'm pretty sure what I have isn't athletes foot. I've been to the foot dr. many times and they always told me it was just from wearing sandals/going...
  16. Hi Amy, You're so lucky to have the diagnosis so early and also to have found this board. I have a 22 month old who had a blood positive test recently. I have been obsessed with this message board, asking a ton of questions and trying to learn as much about celiac, testing procedures, diet, etc. as I possibly can. Not only is everyone here very knowledgeable...
  17. So what causes this, how do you get diagnose and is there anything else we can do besides the gluten-free diet? Natural or med's. So much of this sounds like my son. I've been trying to figure out what was wrong with him for 5 years and nothing has ever quite matched his description. He seems very normal most of the time, but only has 1 friend that...
  18. I'M not familiar with this test, but I will say this...My 22 month old son was allergy tested by skin and blood. He had been projectile vomiting within 30 seconds of drinking milk. The skin test came back saying he was not allergic and the blood test (which I've heard is very accurate) said he was allergic. I think the doctor explained that the tests both...
  19. Sounds like I could have written the post! You're not a hypochondriac...I feel the same way sometimes, but then remind myself that I'm just trying to make us all better. As far as the allergy testing goes, did you do just the skin testing or the blood testing as well? The reason I ask is that my son (22 months), had both and the blood showed a lot more...
  20. Thank you for all that information. My grandfather had Parkinsons and one of my brother's had diabetes. I noticed that your daughter was diagnosed with Aspergers....how much have the symptoms improved with a gluten free diet? Also, I would assume you're pretty knowledgeable about this syndrome...my son exhibits many, but not all of the symptoms, and...
  21. Thanks for your feedback on this. As long as we protect our kids, that's the big thing...I agree. Too bad there's just not more education for everyone else. Good luck to you and hope it gets better with time.
  22. I'm so sorry for what you're going through. Sounds like a rough day today too! I'm with you on the "hope it screams celiac" because you know you can put an end to most, if not all, of their problems. I would be so frustrated if it wasn't because then what do you do?! I have a 22 month old son...sounds like we're at the same stage of the game. ...
  23. I tried to reply and had typed a couple paragraphs then accidentally hit something and it disappeared I think. This is so reassuring though to know that diet might be able to help him. Thank you so much!
  24. First of all, thank you so much for your response! What do you think? Is ODD something she will always have (is it a real thing?) or are the symptoms of "ODD" really symptoms of gluten and/or casien intolerance and just labeled as ODD because they needed to put a name to the symptoms? Also, if you don't mind me asking, did your doctor bring this up to...
