Hi, like Nikki I just want to say 'Hi and welcome' to Claire and Kate too ~ I live in the Midlands, Uk and have only recently become gluten-free (since end August). Although sticking to the diet has been much easier than I'd anticipated I've found it hard not to get glutened by mistake, despite reading numerous warnings on the board I had also been naive...

Thanks for the info and link Nikki!

I drove past McDs today and began thinking about their vanilla milkshake ! Does anyone know if their milkshakes or 'McFlurry' ice cream is gluten-free? And what about the fries? I go there occasionally with my young child so I'd really appreciate knowing if there's anything 'safe' in there. Deb

ARCHIVED Dare I Ask - Could Dairy Be A Problem Too?
Deb O (UK) replied to Deb O (UK)'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks for your replies and thanks Andrea for the info - I've printed it off to show my husband as it may help him to understand why I get so tired! This really is a mine-field isn't it? I will keep reading around and I'm sure that I'll try to go dairy free but I just cannot face that right now, still adjusting to gluten-free diet Best wishes to... -

Deb O (UK) posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi I posted this yesterday but visiting the board again today I think I sort of hijacked someone else's thread I'm very new to gluten-free living and have been gluten-free for only a few weeks. By the 2nd day I felt a big improvement - no more D or rushing to the toilet after eating. I began to think that this was wonderful. However, over the last... -
ARCHIVED What Happens When You Get 'glutened?
Deb O (UK) replied to danikali's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi I'm very new to gluten-free living and have been gluten-free for only a few weeks. By the 2nd day I felt a big improvement - no more D or rushing to the toilet after eating. I began to think that this was wonderful. However, over the last couple of weeks I'm not feeling so good again. My stomach's nowhere near as bad as before gluten-free, but it... -
ARCHIVED Meringue Bombe
Deb O (UK) replied to Deb O (UK)'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Well yes, here in the UK. Sorry, it's easy to just assume that all ingredients that we're familiar with are available everywhere . it's just ready-made meringue (egg whites and sugar) which is then crushed. -
My sister-in-law very kindly made this for us when we went to visit her a couple of weeks ago: MERINGUE BOMBE. 4oz meringue nests 10oz double cream 5oz single cream 8oz raspberries 3tbsp icing sugar Puree raspberries with icing sugar Pass through a sieve Crush meringues Whip the two creams together until they form soft peaks Fold meringues...

ARCHIVED What Is Shorting?
Deb O (UK) replied to Deb O (UK)'s topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thanks everyone, I'm now suitably informed -
Hi I've read several recipes on the board that list 'shorting' as an ingredient. I don't know what this is - any clues? If its something that's particular to the US, does anyone know of a similar ingredient in the UK? Thanks!

ARCHIVED Could Pregnancy Have "triggered" Celiac?
Deb O (UK) replied to maddycat's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Interestingly, although I've had symptoms for many years, things definitely got worse after I had my last child nearly 5 yrs ago (and at the 'mature' age of nearly 39), not least of which I've piled on 4 st in as many years since her birth So I wonder if there is a connection / link? -

Hi Kyalesyin I agree with Paulina's comment above and I also want to say that I think your girlfriend is very lucky to have such a caring a supportive boyfriend!! Does your g-friend get free prescriptions being a student? If not then I can't think of any financial benefits to being dx. As the comment above, she would have to start poisoning herself... -

ARCHIVED Problem With Dairy Too?
Deb O (UK) replied to Deb O (UK)'s topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Rachel this is interesting. I've never thought about food containing histamines . I have taken anti-histamine treatments before, prescribed by the doctor, for allergic reactions that I have to certain environmental factors. I often get a very itchy, sore throat. I haven't made any connection before with what I eat. I'm very new to this (well,...
