ARCHIVED Anyone Else Overweight Pre-diagnosis?

Fantastic Nini - that gives me hope Hi Toni I can relate to what you say and am in the same boat I am classed as obese and I've gained 4 stone in the last 4 years (and I'm not eating constantly as that weight gain would suggest!) I also eat plenty of healthy food and not too much processed stuff. I am so hoping that I will lose... -
Hi there I am gluten intolerant and am almost ready to start a gluten-free diet. I've noticed for a couple of years that I seem to react to eating cheese. Almost immediately, often whilst still eating it, my face gets very tingling and hot and this continues for several minutes Could this be an intolerance to cheese or dairy? Has / does anyone else...

Hi Nantzie I've just read your post with interest. I've just been advised to go gluten-free. I've been an overeater for most of my adult life and have put on 4 stones in as many years recently. Apart from the middle phase that you experienced, I'm hoping that I follow a similar pattern to you. I would love to be 'released' from food. Deb

Deb O (UK) replied to Deb O (UK)'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Taz thanks for the message about coeliac UK. I got on to them a couple of days ago and I ordered a copy of the 'Bible' as I figured I'd not be able to do without it How are you? I read a post from you last week when you'd been to docs and you was feeling low ~ I hope you feel brighter now. Deb -

Hi Sara so glad you said 'Hi'!! I've just read your other post and am excited to learn that you live around Nottingham, which is not so far from me. I live in South Staffs, on the West Mids border. You'll be familiar with the same health systems, products, food trends etc as me. I've been having IBS type symptoms for years (a GP told me it was... -

Wow - thanks for this!! Some great suggestions - I hadn't thought of stirfrying precooked rice like that, I'll try it. And I didn't know that Pataks are gluten-free - now the diet doesn't sound so daunting!! (Sorry for including the full-length of your message but I haven't figured out how to edit it yet!!) So are you living in the UK? I appreciate... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosis
Deb O (UK) replied to ADSayegh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm not at all sure what to advise you really - I'm very new to all of this. But reading others' comments on this board and from my own experience I would say why bother with a biopsy? There's plenty of evidence that you have celiac / gluten intolerance - why not just try the diet and see how you feel? Good luck -
ARCHIVED Doctor Doesn't Think I Have It...
Deb O (UK) replied to Chelle15's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree!! I have recently tested positive on 1 antibody and like so many others I've spent time wondering what that means and if I ought to have a biopsy etc. I was dx with IBS about 12 years ago and it was about 20 years ago that my stomach started bloating. I've now got a new doctor who, when I described my symptoms, said straight away that he'd check my... -

Thank you so much ~ you are really helping me. I'm so keen to get started now as I've felt really 'yuck' this weekend. What you say is really helpful to me as I can see a way to 'cut through' all of the gluten-free stuff which can be overwhelming at first - to stick to natural gluten-free foods makes it much simpler. Hopefully I'll lose some weight this way... -

Hi, thanks to Tiffany, Ursula and TCA for your replies ~ really helpful advice and encouragement. I feel so much better for reading your replies and as always I feel less isolated after communicating with you on this board I've made another appt to see my doctor on Monday with the view to asking him to refer me to see a gastroenterologist, but I... -
ARCHIVED Any Advice On Starting gluten-free Please?

Hi everyone following 1 positive antibody test recently my doc said he would refer me to the hospital's dietician as I need to go gluten-free. That was 3 wks ago - I phoned doc's receptionist last wk and was told the referral letter had been sent. I phoned hospital today who told me they haven't received a letter I was told to phone the doctor again... -
Oh Taz, reading this I just want to offer you a big hug. It sounds really daunting. Is it crucial to you to have a diagnosis on paper? If not, I'm thinking that it might not be worth being put through all of that. You obviously have problems with gluten and are much better being gluten-free. I know it's easy for me to say and difficult to do, but I think...

ARCHIVED Screened Positive On 1/3 Antibody Tests
Deb O (UK) replied to Deb O (UK)'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi there I don't know what DQ1 genes are, there was no mention of this by the doctor (UK) and no suggestion of further tests. I'm just hanging about now waiting to see the dietician - I suppose I could go gluten-free on my own before seeing the dietician, but I'm kinda anxious about it, I've started to buy in some gluten-free stuff but I'm scared that... -
Thanks so much to everyone who's replied - I feel easier about it now. It feels isolating when you're on your own trying to take all this on board. This board is brilliant - packed with info and so many people helping each other out, it's inspiring!! I think "If in doubt - leave it out" is good advice!!

Thanks for this. I guess I'll trust the label if it states 'suitable for coeliacs'.

Hi there, please bear with me as I'm very new to gluten-free! I'm still at the stage where I'm preoccupied with checking labels and noticed that the ingredients listed on a pack of Wotsits (corn puffs) included 2 types of wheat. (Have inadvertently thrown away the packet so can't be specific ) However, underneath the ingredients the pack stated...

ARCHIVED Screened Positive On 1/3 Antibody Tests
Deb O (UK) posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've just been screened for celiac by blood test and was told that I scored positive on 1 antibody - the test looked for 3 antibodies and I was told by doctor that scoring positive on 2 gives a dx of celiac. He has advised me to follow a gluten-free diet and has referred me to a dietician (still waiting). If I've not got celiac disease what does this...
