Sorry, Peaceflower, but cross reactivity is a HUGE myth. You are confusing a reaction to oats with contaminated oats. Your daughter may be one of a very small percentage of Celiac's who react to oats and it has nothing to do with gluten contamination. Not to mention that certified gluten-free oats are completely safe for those who can tolerate oats. But...

I am really trying hard to be empathetic with your posts because you are so new to this but really? You reject counseling, which is a very good idea, you feel that your life has ended and now you can never go out to eat and are totally isolated socially and the only word I keep seeing is can't. You know what? You are probably right because what you put...

Ttg igg diagnosis?
Gemini replied to Ryaculese's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No, total IgA should always be done with any other IgA based testing to see if you make enough of the antibody for the testing to be valid. There are people who are IgA deficient, which would make any IgA testing unreliable. They then go to IgG based testing. Yes, heart problems are connected to Celiac. A-fib or other heart rhythm issues can be directly...- 17 replies

It is not hard to avoid gluten in daily life if you understand how cross contamination works. No one should be using a computer if they haven't washed their hands after eating lunch that is gluten heavy. Who wants to get smeared food on their electronics? Plus, hand washing should be the norm, not only for gluten avoidance but for general hygiene......

Udi's has oatmeal now and it is pretty good. I am lucky that I can eat gluten-free oats without any issues but then again, I never had a problem with oats before I was diagnosed. Sometimes it is the fiber content that can bother people. I have tried about 3-4 brands of certified gluten-free oats since diagnosis 11 years ago and not one of them ever made...

Beverage.........Bob's Red Mill Oats are really safe oats. I do not have any trouble with certified gluten-free oats and I have never had any trouble with Bob's. If you look at their protocol, it doesn't get any better than what they and many other companies do. Dedicated fields, dedicated facility, Elisa testing.......it may be that you cannot eat oats...

Are M&Ms Gluten Free?
Gemini replied to Grace'smom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes, and then we all can celebrate the $5.00 bag of M&M's. One could argue that everything can potentially be cc'd from anywhere but if you follow that to such a degree, then you would not have much to eat and your food variety would greatly suffer. Yes, I know no one needs M&M's to live but many people have come on here and argued that melons... -
Are M&Ms Gluten Free?
Gemini replied to Grace'smom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Olivia....what country are you located in? I just bought a bag of regular M&M's from the vending machine at work. They are the milk chocolate ones and it is a 1.69 oz. bag. The allergy warning states: Contains milk and soy. May contain peanuts. The "best before" date on it is for April of 2017 so this is a recent bag. -
Celiac Sensitivity?
Gemini replied to Zozo16's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
For dining out, check out the website: http://Www.findmeglutenfree.com. They list restaurants with gluten free menu's and options in your area and there are reviews from other celiacs on there to help you figure out the better, safe places to eat. Great web site! Although it is optimal to not dine out at first, reality sometimes gets in the way.... -
I, too, have been thinking about Barty lately and it was hard not knowing how she was doing. This is still a shock and difficult to hear, knowing how hard she worked to recover from Celiac. Her presence is sorely missed on here but I know I will never forget her. Rest in peace, dear Lady. You made quite an impression on us all.

Starbucks warning
Gemini replied to SherriN's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kareng is correct......Starbucks is not to blame here. In the US, I do not believe the Frappuccino's are gluten free. I never order those anyway. I would imagine that their drink ingredients are the same in the UK, just like any other chain does. As stated beforehand, simpler drinks are safe. Soy chai's and coffee latte's are always safe......I have been... -
Sjogrens or something else
Gemini replied to Stacy0w's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Many people have vastly different symptoms but the hallmarks are the dry eyes and mouth. I do not have any muscle or joint pain whatsoever but I also exercise hard and that has really helped me feel better. The gluten-free diet has also done wonders for my symptoms so that convinced me that Sjogren's is tied heavily with gluten exposure. I still have symptoms... -
Sjogrens or something else
Gemini replied to Stacy0w's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your B12 is good and not too high. The max usually is around 800 and docs like to see it in the 600's. Did they do any testing for Sjogren's? https://www.sjogrens.org/home/about-sjogrens/diagnosis This is comprehensive info on what they can possibly do to test. Other than that, having a higher total protein level is common in people with autoimmune disease... -
Sjogrens or something else
Gemini replied to Stacy0w's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Stacy........yes, some of those symptoms can occur with Sjogren's but the hallmark is the dry eyes and mouth. I would wait to get copies of all testing for thyroid as they are hypo-thyroid symptoms also and what some doctors consider normal, just aren't. Healthy thyroid numbers are different for everyone so don't believe anything they say until you see... -
Strawberries From Sharis Berries?
Gemini replied to Simona19's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My husband and I received a box of these from a family member and the complete ingredients list was included in the box of strawberries, along with allergy warnings. It appears that some of the dipped strawberries are gluten free and some are not. There are versions that have a lot of stuff on the berries and some are just plain chocolate dipped. I did... -
The only time I have ever come across a time when I had to do a teaching moment to those eating gluten at the same table with me is when rolls are being served, or crusty bread, and they do that thing where they TEAR it apart, as you do, and the crumbs go flying everywhere. That is cause for concern because you know the crumbs will land on the Celiac's plate...

I am not being dismissive and I never said that I did not believe you had a reaction. You are so new to the diet and when it's early in the healing process, this will happen. It happened to me in the early days but I did not assume I was glutened every time a food did not agree with me. Sometimes you never figure it out. What you do is pick up and move...

You took the words right out of my mouth, kareng! Geezaloo........why do some people become so food afraid? Sometimes the internet isn't such a good thing because there are too many people with fear who post untrue statements about food suppliers and think there is gluten in everything. There isn't. If you learn how to correctly read labels, and this...

Ghirardelli Chocolate Chips
Gemini replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been using the chocolate chips and eating the squares since I was diagnosed with Celiac 11 years ago. The squares I have regularly because it is one of my safe, go-to treats. I mean, way more regularly than most people.....I am one of those skinny Celiac's. I have to not buy them and take a break because they are so good, if there is a bag in the... -
Ghirardelli Chocolate Chips
Gemini replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been eating the Ghirardelli squares and using their chocolate chips for YEARS and have never had any problems. I think the white chocolate chips are not gluten-free and I do not use those but all the rest are safe. I am extremely sensitive and if there were any gluten in them, from any of the 3 grains, I would not be this well. I recently had my... -
There is so much to say regarding this post but I do not have a lot of time right now. I have been to the UK, Ireland and Scotland many times over the past 20 years and eaten in many a French restaurant in London......with real French people. I have to agree that the food, overall, is much better than here in the States. You can get great food here and...

Hello Lisa......I am another Lisa. I have met a lot of people with Celiac whose names are Lisa so it has been joked around here that having the name of Lisa is a symptom of Celiac Disease. On to your question.......I have had candida and was diagnosed with Celiac in 2005. Your doctor is correct......the two problems are not strangers to each other...

Gluten Intolerance And Low White Blood Cell Counts?
Gemini replied to disturbedme's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Low WBC's are common for those with autoimmune disease, and that coming from a very good hematologist I saw about 6 years ago. She see's this all the time. After 10 years gluten-free, I still have lower WBC's but it doesn't matter as long as you are not getting sick all the time. I would say that if you have pain and are losing weight, there is something...
