ARCHIVED Celiac Mom Just Not Feeling Well
Tasha2004 replied to Tasha2004's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease

Been here before about this but now it's months later. My 81 yr old Mom has had Celiac for about 17 yrs or more. She had a bout of tummy trouble for two months this winter, and lost weight. We suspect she accidentally ingested gluten last Fall, recovered from that, and then she had tummy woes for two months. When she went off a certain blood pressure...

ARCHIVED Protein Drink For Celiacs?
Tasha2004 replied to Tasha2004's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you. My Mom already had Boost at home, so I told her to get it out and try it. She knew not to buy chocolate. thanks so much. -
ARCHIVED Protein Drink For Celiacs?
Tasha2004 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm going pretty nuts with this. I think my 81 yr old Mom was accidentally glutened. Now she is having some tummy problems, though colonoscopy, endoscopy and abdomen CT scan showed her to be in great health. She's afraid to eat almost everything (her doctor told her to keep eating, and said most likely her only problem is lactose.) So she isnt getting... -
ARCHIVED Diarrhea Question . . . Sorry!
Tasha2004 replied to LisaJ's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Seems to be a common problem, the lactose. My Mom finally figured out she was having d. from probably eating foods and not taking a Lactaid pill with them. She finally seems to be getting better. Whew. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Mom Needs Help!
Tasha2004 replied to Tasha2004's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks Cassidy. The doctors didnt make any issue at all about the gastritis, so we pretty much forgot about it all together. I appreciate the thoughts on the Rice milk, and since Mom is just doing this one parasite test, she can probably work on just that angle for now. Problem is, she is having trouble eating many foods and I know she is getting worried... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Mom Needs Help!
Tasha2004 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
We're having a problem and need some suggestions for it. My Mom is 81, has had Celiac for 17 years. She has had about two episodes of apparently getting some gluten, one resulted in needing Steroids. The last one was maybe six months ago, and she recovered without help. We thought she was doing fine. Lately she has been having diarrhea from many foods,... -
ARCHIVED Problems Again
Tasha2004 replied to Ash82's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yep. She has been gluten-free for about 17 years. She is really careful, but she is 81 yrs old and she isnt real careful about vitamins and things like that. I found out she has been drinking about half a cup of rice milk a day, and I am not sure if that might not be giving her a problem at this time. I of course pray the scan doesnt show any severe problems... -
ARCHIVED Problems Again
Tasha2004 replied to Ash82's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My Mom has had two severe spells of obvious contamination over 17 years. One time she needed steroids. The last time I couldnt get her any help from any doctor at all. So she dealt with it. I wonder if the spells (accidental contamination) caused her to have problems of an ongoing nature due to damage being done. Any thoughts? -
ARCHIVED Problems Again
Tasha2004 replied to Ash82's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This is what my mom's doctor did to her. So now I have an 81 yr old lady with gastritis and the big D on occasion, not every single meal, and she is scared to death. Her whole Christmas is ruined because she had a colonoscopy, came up with a diagnosis of gastritis, then ended up having more D. The doctor never spoke to her once since she came out of anesthesia... -
ARCHIVED Rice Milk
Tasha2004 replied to Tasha2004's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, I always thought she was very careful, but she is elderly and she is very (overly?) thrifty. I told her to switch to Lactose free milk and she said but it costs too much! I'm surprised she would rather go in for major tests than to start at the source of the problem, which in my eyes is most likely the Celiac. The doctors of course dont take time... -
ARCHIVED Rice Milk
Tasha2004 replied to Tasha2004's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Absolutely it could. She has been having problems for awhile and I keep telling her we need to look at everything. She takes about ten vitamins a day, even that could be it. She isnt convinced by me that we need to do this, and the doctors have her afraid she has something really bad wrong with her. I dont believe she does, because she has not lost weight... -
As I posted elsewhere here, my 81 yr old Mom has been feeling off for quite awhile. She has been gluten-free for 17 years, but showed a few problems lately. I suspected gluten was sneaking in. I see Rice and Soy milk on the list of other forbidden foods. She has Rice Milk every day, because she doesnt want to pay for Lactose free milk. I think this is...

ARCHIVED Diarrhea Question . . . Sorry!
Tasha2004 replied to LisaJ's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I posted this elsewhere but just saw this topic. My 81 yr old Mom has been Celiac about 17 years. Her recent Celiac blood panel showed nothing getting through. A colonoscopy and Endoscopy showed gastritis only. She is now having Diarrhea from many foods, most especially fats or fruits. She can eat rice. I worry because she is drinking rice milk, but... -
Hi All: My 81 yr old Mom is having some real tummy issues. She has been diagnosed about 17 years, and had two incidents of accidentally ingesting gluten (and getting pretty sick) in those years since. She had a recent blood panel, no gluten appears to be getting in. She had a routine colonoscopy and endoscopy two weeks ago, which showed gastritis. She...

ARCHIVED Question On Wood Chips For Smoker
Tasha2004 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We have wood chips for the smoker which are Jack Daniels (very strong). My husband wants to know if this can hurt a Celiac if it is just for smoke purposes? Never mind, I see according to info here whiskey is ok, so whiskey flavored smoke must be too? -
Mom's been on the Celiac diet for over 20 years! But thanks. Yes, it is scary. Before she was diagnosed she went down to about 65 pounds.

OH, she does have that visit with her new gastro, in October. So she will get further help, and maybe they can discuss it together. It could be the gluten was totally out of her system before the blood test too. I'm teaching a class to my fibromyalgia support group this week on being proactive and self management. Hee hee, got some practice in already...

She just got the results. They did either an IgA or IgG, I dont know which and Mom couldnt find her paper. It was negative. I hope that doesnt make the doctor feel like she ordered the test for no reason. I hope she knows now what to do for the next person. Mom is doing much better, but feels she truly did eat something wrong somewhere along the line...

Lynne: My Mom had the blood draw for the test or tests yesterday. I wasnt able to go with her, so I dont know which ones they ordered, I think probably IgA. I must have convinced the doctor when I sent her four pages of documents. Mom is feeling much much better, so it may have been some incident of eating something that wasnt right. Thanks for writing...

Chelsea: OOps, sorry I spelled refractory sprue wrong. No, about 17 years ago my Mom had a round of what I called refractory sprue. I found an aricle on this web site on it, and they said they often had to comb through the patient's diet and often ended up putting on a short round of steroids. That is what happened to my Mom then, and that may be what...

My Mom (80) has been showing signs of accidentally ingesting or coming in contact with wheat/gluten. The primary care doc didnt believe me when I said they could do a Gliadin IgA or IgG to test for this. Mom informed me today, she had a round of (refrectory?) sprue several years ago, and needed steroids to clear it up. I sent the primary care a nice kind...

ARCHIVED If The Diet Isnt Working........
Tasha2004 replied to Tasha2004's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Pauliina: Yes, it is, and the stupid company wont write me back and let me know what their bag is filled with. Indeed it could be wheat or something with wheat germ oil. -
Thank you all, and 2Kids, I think I will use that link. Author Danna Korn graciously wrote me an email last night and said any primary care doctor (even an assistant) can order the IgA IgG. I know this is true, because they have ordered them on me to make sure I dont inherit celiac disease. I think I will useyour link, run over to my Mom's doctor's office...
