  1. No Commander's Palace has not opened. Also, bring snacks for late night snacking. There is no such thing as the late hours, like most fast food and stores are. The 24 hour Wal-MArt Supercenter closes at 11 (that's progress). Most of the city business, nationwide chains or not close by 9. Finding a fast food place open past 8 is hard.
  2. I'm from New Orleans and I'm thinking hard. A good resturant, slightly expensive, hard to get into, but doesn't take reservations is Galatoirs. Not sure how gluten free they are but have handled other dietary needs in the past. The problem is alot a new orleans food depends heavily on bread pasta, bread crumbs, french bread. When do you need this...
  3. Shelf life of a couple years? Um ew. That just does not sound healthy.
  4. That wold be great. I'm trying to make lost bread and sandwhiches (my dad's a truck driver and can't bring stuff that needs to be heated up.) and the bread i bought is horrible for sandwhiches, not to bad toasted and smothered (when i say smothered i mean it) in preserves. I'm waiting on my blood results, but even then I'll have to wait on my endo (don...
  5. I went to Whole Foods recently (ours isn't way out of the way, actually in the heart of town, which is probably just as bad) and they only had one type of sandwhich bread, it's very heavy, about the weight of a brick and the slices were a weird constitecy, and not the greatest. Are there any more like regualr bread types, or will I have to make it? I...
  6. When I went to my GI and we were talking he said that it's become more common in our area due to the living conditions. I live in New Orleans and he said since Katrina he has seen an increase in Auto Immune disorders across the spectrum.
  7. As much as I LOVE driving the bridge, I think I'll look up the Jefferson Chpater. Thanks for the info.
  8. Any Southshore? Orleans, Jefferson, St. Charles, St. Bernard, St. John? Driving to the Northshore over the brdge is a PAIN.
  9. Thanks so much. I'm gonna see what barnes and nobles has and flip through before I order, not sure whether I'll use Amazon or not. The dummies one he has, I got him as a joke, becuase we tease him that anything new he needs the dummy books.
  10. Actually a couple will do, make a great gift for my dad for his birthday and Christmas. He's a great chef, so skill level doesn't matter. He's been to cooking school and even owned a resturant, but stopped when he moved. I looked at amazon .com and there are so many.
  11. I'm in the NO area. My dad has been diagonosed for the most part, I'm waiting blood results.
  12. He does alot of the cooking.
  13. No, I have a blood test today and he's pretty sure the results are going to come back positive.
  14. It might be 30 pages long but it's what I'm looking for. THe list is great in orginization, I can bring it with me the first few shopping times and easily find what i am looking for based on what it is. My dad is so happy because he was told Hersheys is out but we just found he can eat like butterfingers and stuff so he's happy.
  15. Is there a list somewhere of foods that most stores carry? My father was recently diagnosed and we live in New Orleans, where there are still few food stores, and our Whole Foods is pretty small. I know like Cocoa Pebbles and Fruity Pebbles but is there anywhere i can find list of items?
  16. She said since the only symptom I have is reflux, but my mom and dad have decided to have the done on me. Dad told me to enjoy one last week eating what I want. He really this this answers a lot a problems that may have been misdiagnosed. Can they tell with just the bloodtest or do I have to have other test?
  17. I mentioned it and she said the only symptom is reflux. However this was just a gp. My mom thinks I should go back to my gastro. (with the relux under control with meds, I only go when needed, about once a year, and don't have to go until next Aug.) Until then my dad wants me to follow the diet his doctor told him to see if it clears up. Would painful...
  18. I used to work at Disney World and can attest the fact that they are accomodating. I work in a candy shop and while sadly most of our candy was not Celiac friendly, I do know the resturants are extremely accomodating. Tony's at Magic Kingdom actully told a family with a child recently diagnosed about all types of bread the child could have. Just tell you...
  19. My dad was recently diagnosed, and I have a check up tomorrow with my gastro doctor to check up on my reflux. SHould I mention it?
