  1. I'm having a hard time finding a pharmacy that will help ensure that my medications are gluten-free. I have one doctor who looks up the info in some book (I think it's the Physicians Desk Reference) and prescribes only gluten-free medicines for me. The book should be available to your doctors. My pharmasicts are terrible. One tells me "Dear, they don...
  2. Nature Made has a "Plus Energy" Multi Vitamin that will help your husband. It has ginsing, not caffiene. I was always severly anemic and therefore very tired. I live on the Nature Made Multi Plus energy vitamins. It really gives me an added boost and I do not feel so exhausted all day.
  3. You may want to rethinck the Lever soap. I loved Lever soap, but when I called Unalever (the parent company) they said Lever is not gluten-free. I use Dove now. Suave product line is generally ok. Read the labels.

    ARCHIVED Chinese Food

Another option is to order a Steamed meal (Chicken and Mixed Veggies, etc.) and bring your own sauce. I order the "Spa Meals" from Chin Chins. They are cooked and served in a bamboo container. I bring my own sauces - sweet N sour, bbq, or soy sauce. I get funny looks from other people, but the food tastes great and I get to be out with friends
  5. Hi, Did a quick search and could not find a listing for gluten-free Cough drops. My child has given me a serious cold. Does anyone have a good cough drop they recommend? I already called Halls and they only have a few flavors that might be, but she needed me to have the product, which I don't, in order to tell me if it is gluten-free or not. End...
  6. Dempscd, Well I am over the Fifth's Disease thing. My daughter and every child and parent that we were in contact with got sick with Fifth's. Nasty little disease since you are contageous when you don't know you are sick. My hands still swell up in the mornings, but nothing like when I was sick. And my hands still ache at times. I'm tempted to go...
  7. Bette Hagman's Gluten-Free Gourmet has a muffin recipe that I just started making and I love it. It is a fruitless muffin recipe and then you add whatever kind of fruits you want. I have only made it Blueberries and I love it! I've made blueberry pancakes with the recipe and they are great too.
  8. I ended up with Gastroparesis (paralysis of the stomach) and a gallbladder that did not work. Instead of listening to my doctor and having the colonoscopy and endoscopy to check everything out, I went ahead and had the surgery. Hapily I feel much better without the gallbladder, but it would have been smarter to have had the colonoscopy and endoscopy done...
  9. Tha Pantene shampoo's and continioners are gluten-free. As for make-up, I use Nutragena (sp?) and Burt's Bee's. Believe it or not, Burt's makes some pretty good make-up. I do not have DH, but my hands split open when ever I touch Gluten. So I am a believer in keep everything you use gluten-free.
  10. Thanks for all the ideas. Does anyone have a good tried and true recipe for making muffins? I just tried a HAgman recipe last night and the muffins are ok, but they never browned. So they don't look to good. Yes the oven was set at the right temp and I have an oven thermometer and it was at the right temp too. Thanks!
  11. Biggest frustrations: I have been sick with stomach and weight problems since I was a small child. I am on my second surgery to look for problems and had one surgery to remove my gallbladder. And after all these years more doctors told me it was a female problem or just in my head. Now I have an actual answer to what is wrong (Celiacs) and a way to fix it...
  12. All of you may want to ask about your gallbladders. They can do a nuclear medicine study that tracks the emptying of the gallbladder. I had to have an emptying study on my stomach and gallbladder prior to the celiac diagnosis. I had the upper right quadrant pain right around and under the ribs. I had my gallbladder removed as a result of the tests and I am...
  13. I would make sure to have a gluten fest prior to the biopsy. Load up on all the bread, pasta, beer, etc you can handle and good luck on your test. My last meal was a pizza buffet at a fantastic Mom & Pop pizza shop. Just make sure you have enough gluten in your system to really see what is going on. However, since you have been off gluten your test may...
  14. I fully understand your concern about sedation for such a small child. Some questions to ask the Gastro would be about how they sedat the child? (IV or Breathing something?) Can you be present and hold the child for sedation? Do they have a pediatric nurse who is good with putting in IV's? Also ask if they have the numbing cream. I forgot the name of it,...
  15. I have to say that I heard about IHOP adding pancake batter to the omletts months ago and as a result I do not eat there at all. Just makes me very nervous. Waffle is a great southern thing I eat there fairly often and always have the hash browns and a fried egg. Personally the smoothered and covered hash browns are the best. The food is fast and...
  16. In trying to help my family realize that they all need to be tested for Celiacs, we had an intersting discussion about the related diseases and the many symptoms of celiacs. That seems to be my most effective way to get them to understand that they need to pay attention. Please point out if I am wrong about some of this. After all, this is the best educated...
  17. Thanks everyone! I always forget to mention the peanut allergy. Peanuts, tree nuts, and Soy are out. I knew I was a kind of picky eater before this diet and now I am forcing myself to eat the foods I don't like. I'm not fond of eggs, but I have started eating fried egg sandwiches and omlets. I have been avoiding seafood for years, and now I am...
  18. Thanks for the replies. It's a peanut allergy, which also includes all other "tree nuts". I have been avoiding all soy as well. Some people tend to develop a soy allergy or other related allergies. I'm really not sure how, but the doctor recommended staying away from it all until a couple of years have gone by to see if by chance the allergy will go away...
  19. I started out by eating only home made meals. Fresh meat, plain rice or baked potato, fresh fruit. McCormicks 100 % seasonings are safe. Meaning the Basil or the Oragano are safe but check the mixed seasoning like SantaFe etc. Make a list of all of the products in your house that do not clearly contain wheat and call the manufacturer to find out if it...
  20. I have been gluten-free for a little over six months now and I have to say I am feeling much better, but bored to tears with eating. Every meal is basically the same. Some form of meat (no seafood), rice, potato, or mashed potato, veggies, and maybe fruit. I have a variety of BBQ sauces and marinades that are used to add some interest. I eat pizza once a...
  21. I was also anemic most of my life. I think the iron levels are ok now. One doctor told me to avoid milk and caffiene within a few hours of taking my iron pills and when eating meals. Apparently the milk and caffiene help to prevent the absorption of iron - great to know if you have hemmachromatosis (iron overload). Drink juice with vitamin C to help...
  22. My family and I take long car rides to Florida on a regular basis. I have gotten to the point that I make sandwhiches for me, the only gluten-free, just to get to Florida. My problem is eating breakfast while traveling. I do fine for lunch and dinner, but breakfast is a problem. Fast food breakfast seems out of the question. I have never been able to enjoy...
  23. I have the red eye thing. Missed most of 5th grade due to the teacher's phobia of Pink eye. I'm in my thirties now and I still have the red eye probelms. Rarely do both eyes flare up at the same time, so everybody that sees me is rather horrified of pink eye. And yes I have had enough pink eye to know the difference between the allergy issue and the pink...
  24. Thanks for the quick replies. After spending so many years jumping to go to a doctor looking for an answer to my problems, Celiacs, I am now very hesitant to go to a doctor - feeling like I have become a hypochondriac I did make it to the doctor yetserday. It seems we have Fifths Disease running around my area and the doctor thinks that is what I have...
  25. I woke up Monday morning with hands and feet seriously swollen and serious joint pain. I can't get my rings off and it is causing concern. The swelling has not gone done - if anything it has gotten a little worse. My wrists, shoulders, and knees are killing me. I can't close my hands due to the swelling. Is this a Celiac reaction to gluten?? Does anyone...
